KG was also a gift.

 Be honest man. If Pau Gasol were to request a trade today, and you were offered the 2 following packages, which one would you be more likely to take?

Kwame Brown (expiring)
Jarvis Crittenton
Marc Gasol
Aaron McKie
2 1st round picks

or

Al Jefferson
Gerald Green
Ryan Gomes
Sebastian Telfair
Theo Ratliff (expiring)
2 1st round picks

I'm not trying to take anything away from the Lakers' chip or anything like that. However, if there's one team who shouldn't be complaining about the trade that brought KG to Boston, it's Laker fans.

Yeah, the KG trade was so far from a gift. Al Jefferson is one of the best young C/PF in the NBA

Lol, so funny. People trying to compare apples to oranges. KG trade is not really comparable to Gasol trade.

So let's find a couple things that are comparable: the variables in which both teams would have traded for KG.

Boston: Al Jefferson, the guy who produces of 20-10 stats that has hardly any impact on the W column nba.com/standings along with fillers/expiring.

or

Lakers: Lamar Odom, Bynum, and Kwame Brown(expiring) plus fillers.

Self-explanatory.

the reason why Jefferson's 20/10s don't have any impact is because he doesn't have very much developed talent around him. Jefferson is one of the top 5 centers in the NBA when healthy

First of all, I don't even think LA included Bynum. Second of all, Bynum sucks. And why would Minny want a 29 yr old tweener forward that would pout for his entire time in Minnesota? How would that fit in their future.

We had the best trade out there for Garnett. PERIOD. Not even a debate. Second of all, the Lakers paid about .05$ on the dollar for Gasol.

YEah, maybe I'm missing somebody, but here's how I'd rank the top 5 centers:

1. Duncan

2. Yao

3. Howard

4. Jefferson

5. Shaq

Well, that looks about right. Only problem is that Jefferson is more of a natural pf, but will in all likelihood be seeing a ton of time at the C position because of Kevin Love.

KG didnt want to go there because Kobe didn't give him any re-assurance of staying in LA.

Jefferson has had garbage with him for most of his career and actually the Celtics were a .500 team when Pierce and Jefferson played together. He at least had proven himself, while Bynum hadn't done that yet. The Timberwolves were rebuilding, so Odom probably wouldn't even have stayed with the team anyways. You could make a case the Bulls had the better offer the previous season with Deng/second pick, but the Celtics certainly had a better offer than the Lakers.

Or maybe McHale didn't care for the Lakers' young talent.

Yup. I don't know why this is still being argued. KG said it during his press conference when he was introduced as a Celtic. He also chose to go to Boston because he had a better shot at the title.

Sad Celtics fans

See ya in the finals if ray ray can stay in condition and the mle brings a player

and of course Phil, Odom & Ariza return.

This is how the Lakers will be talking a year from now if they don't re-sign their key F.A.

Not signing Posey and getting an injured Garnett was huge.

But Posey is still not a Celtic. Without a Kobe stopper. LA will beat the celtics

bonsaiflipflops wrote:The difference between the two deals is that ESPN referred to the Boston and Minnesota trade as a blockbuster, and the Los Angeles and Memphis trade was an "in dire need" move.

Here are the two deals as I understand them. Suffice to say, Minnesota has nothing to complain about. That trade was as close to fair as you're going to get, it wasn't a "gift."

To Minnesota from Boston: Al Jefferson (later signed a five-year extension), Ryan Gomes (expiring contract; resigned), Sebastian Telfair (expiring contract; resigned), Gerald Green (subsequently traded to Houston, and later waived), Theo Ratliff (expiring contract; later waived), and two first round picks. One being the original future first round pick sent to Boston from Minnesota as part of the Ricky Davis/Wally Szczerbiak trade. The other, Minnesota owns Boston's first round pick in 2009 (twenty-eighth pick). And cash considerations.

To Boston from Minnesota: Kevin Garnett (then signed a three-year extension, agreeing to eliminate an early termination clause in his original contract)

To Memphis from the Lakers: Kwame Brown (expiring contract), Javaris Crittenton (eventually traded to Washington), Aaron McKie (later waived), Marc Gasol, and a first round pick in 2008 (twenty-eighth pick, Donte Greene; subsequently traded to Houston) and 2010. And cash considerations.

Note: Houston traded Darrell Arthur to Memphis after initially receiving him via a trade from Portland who drafted him with the twenty-seventh pick.

To the Lakers from Memphis: Pau Gasol and a 2010 second round pick.

Why are we arguing about gifts? The gifts come to the teams that are working hard to get them. If Minny would have done the Garnett trade without Al Jefferson being part of it, would you have said "no no" please take him?

During the finals I was thinking the same and felt Boston would easily represent the East if healthy. Orlando and especially Cleveland just don't have enough talent or match-up problems for LA. I never like to see teams hurt during the playoffs (Same for Atlanta). The future is still bright for Boston.

Agreed people have to remember as crazy as it sounds that some Boston fans HATED the KG trade the day it was made

AGREED... 4 out of 5 dentists AGREE...Celts fans are MORONS!!! :D

Seriously...WHICH Celts fan wants to stand up and say the KG trade was suspect? SERIOUSLY???

0 out of MILLIONS of Laker fans think the Pau trade was suspect...we are obviously a whole lot smarter.

BTW...the ONLY reason we got that trade done was because we happened to have the BIGGEST expiring..DEAL WITH IT!!!
