Wednesday is when teams officially can begin talking to free agents, and Jason Kidd is expected to get overtures from several teams: Cleveland, Portland, Boston, New York and perhaps the Lakers. All of those teams except for Portland are stymied by the salary cap. The Knicks can only offer their mid-level exception, expected to be between $5 million and $6 million. He is probably the best back up point guard available, although if Marbury continues to be the good citizen I think he has more left in the tank than Kidd. I have never really liked Kidd, a feeling that was amplified by the series against the Nets years ago, but as long as you aren't expecting him to be a lock down defender (which we don't need him to be, just a good team defender) then their are few players that can pass and run a fast break as well as he can. And his shooting (at least as a stand still knock down shooter) has improved a lot as his other abilities have slowed down.

I imagine seeing him suit up in green would soften my opinion on him considerably. I would be pretty happy if we signed him.

Can't see it happening. This team has such a glaring need for bigs, their backup point will either be signed with the LLE or vet minimum. Neither of which Kidd would accept. Marbury, on the other hand, would due to the fact no one in their right mind would offer more at this point. Sounds like the guy just make this up.

We could certainly use Kidd. No doubt about that. He would be a nearly ideal point guard alongside Eddie in teh second unit, seeing as he has no issues guarding the 2, and even can guard threes. His shooting from teh arc is much better now, as well, after years of working on it, so you could certainly play him with Rondo. You also couldn't ask for a better mentor for Rajon than a guy who is a hall of famer with a very similar skill set to Rajon.

The key would be if they already had Grant Hill in their back pocket, who would be playing on the cheap. Then you could actually use MLE money on Kidd. I wouldn't see this as being a threat to Rondo in the slightest, as Kidd NEEDS somebody to guard the elite point guards for him now. That is why he played so much with Barea this past season. Resign BBD, and find a way to pick up a big either through a trade, or through a the LLE/ vet min, and the Celtics could make this work. I would prefer having Marion, but I would take Kidd and Hill being on the team over wishing that Marion was here.

I just assume that Kidd would rather play for a team that could promise him a larger role. At this point in his career I'm sure he's not interested in competing with Rondo and Ray for playing time. If I'm the Celtics I go into the season looking at Eddie, unless he opts out of course, as the back up PG. Then go out and find that SG-SF (Hill could help facilitate offense) and PF-C's (just in case Davis bolts).

Under this scenario, the Celtics increase their frontcourt depth and if Eddie really struggles you can look to add a player at the deadline or trade TA and Scal for an overpriced backup PG.

We can't go with House as the primary backup for the third straight year. When the Boston Celtics have been exposed the last two years it's been at this backup PG position.

I am not interested in waiting this out. I would try and trade Scal and perhapsGiddens or walker for a PG.

We can't use the MLE on a PG because of our needs inside. If Grant Hill ever came at the LLE, then we are golden.

Got to find someway to get size.Quality over quantity this year.

Well, I should have stated that I'm one of the few Pruitt believers out there. I have a shred of hope that Gabe can improve his offense to the point of respectability and if so he could really help to solidify the position with his solid defense and ability to stretch the floor.

But more importantly, I feel that the bigger team needs are at backup SG-SF and PF-C. At PG you have the young and improving Rondo. As we saw in the Playoffs, he's capable of playing a lot of minutes and the sliver of time that's left could easily go to House. Especially if the team is able to acquire a Grant Hill who's capable of facilitating offense effectively.

The Celtics have a lot of needs with limited money to spend (this is the reality that most fans like to conveniently ignore. They're not going to resign Davis and Marbury while adding a SG-SF AND a PF-C. The Celtics won't spend that much money.

I'm not sure Ainge wants another point guard that can't shoot. I'd try to get Nash for Scal, Tony and Pruitt. Heck, they gave Shaq away for practically nothing.

Ainge is a fan of Kidd, but Kidd isn't a fan of Boston and likely won't be a fan of what we can pay or the role he'll play.

We'd only bring in him if we traded Rondo, and thats the only way he would want to come.

Can't imagine Kidd wanting to sign a one year deal to come off the bench. He'll take $7-8 million from Dallas..
