come on man...Davis hasn't shown the ability to defend 4's in space yet and he sure as hell hasn't shown the discipline necissary to trim down to 270 - I'd sure a **** sign "that Big Baby" but thats not even physically possible for him to accomplish in one 6 month off-season...he's talking out his ass..if he lost 25lbs of body fat in an off-season that would be a major, major accomplishment...50lbs is just a guy that doesn't know the logistical impossibility of that statement - unless he's got a tape worm or some deadly virus, it aint happening...not this year...

Elrod:

The statement you made about Big Baby is why so many players feel one has to actually
have played, out of merit, against First Round Picks, to actually know what you're talking about.

I agree... I lost 20 pounds of blubber... but it took a few months to do it... I had to be dedicated and STICK with high quality foods and shun fried foods and big macs...

Sometimes I really don't understand how these athletes who make way more money than most of us... can't shell out a few bucks and have some dietitian cook all their meals for them...

Talking about cheap... I just saw an article about Marbury using the NBPA to negotiate his contracts for free... good lord man... this is a Marbury quote...

"When you have a team that negotiates the Collective Bargaining Agreement for all the players representing you, there is strength in numbers."

I'm not kidding you here... apparently Marbs isn't aware that Stern walked all over these guys!

Big Baby is being candid and politic at the same time. Kudos to him.

But if Ainge lets him walk, after letting Posey walk last year -- ouch. I don't think a competitive bench is very realistic w/o an Early Bird signing of Davis plus the investment of the full MLE.

I think Boston has told Big Baby that he is going to have set the market and if nothing comes his way then they can try and work out a deal at the end of the offseason. It was the same way for West and Gomes and other Restricted FA's. If Boston makes an offer they almost assuredly are going to have to pay him more to sign him. Obviously if Davis comes with a contract offer to them and it is below what they were thinking about paying him then deal done.

I don't know what the numbers would be that they won't match on but restricted FA sucks, Baby is likely going to be back for his QO because teams hate having offer sheets matched.

OK Bill, I usually love your posts, but let me chime in here. I lost 45 pounds in less than 2 months when I found I was diabetic. Just changing my eating habits and drink habits did this for me without a big exrcise routine. It is possible if you stick to the diet in hand. My boss I think was a little curious, probably thinking I was on drugs because I lost so much so quick. I will say this though, I put 15 pounds back on because my whole family said I looked bad because I was at ba weight that I hadn't seen since I was in 11th grade.

^^^ Bill is right. Its easy enough to lose weight - but its hard to lose FAT and keep your MUSCLE which is what BBD wants to do. BBD big thing is his strength the kind of calorie cutting you have to do to lose 30 lbs would destroy most of your muscle. However steroids and HGH could allow him to cut that fat in a short time combined with a good workout program. This of course is how movie stars manage to get buff so quick.

The issue with weight and someone like Davis is you have to understand the percentages and not just the pounds. 50 pounds is only 15% of a 320 pound man's body. The equivalent would be 30 pounds to a 200lb man. The other issue is that Davis is not likely to lose "fat" in that kind of weight reduction he will lose muscle which weighs more.

Ideally Baby would find a conditioning regiment that focused on other factors than simply the numbers on the scale. I think the crash dieting for training camp saps him of his strength and stamina. If Baby was 290 lbs at the start of the season and 320 lbs at the end I will take the 320lb Baby.

I like Big Baby a lot but I am afraid that he thinks if he can put up a number on a scale and people will leave him alone and he won't have to deal with making the changes in his diet he has to.

I remember Ainge making a statement that he would like to see Davis at 285 last off season. The thing was, Davis didn't get there and knows that he needs to be there this year. I can't see anyone being serious about giving him the MLE when he hasn't been serious about his conditioning. He is a great guy and player, but if he wants to be paid then he needs to be serious about his condtioning. I think he will get 2 years at about 3 to 4 million per and have the oppertunity to maximize himself from there.
