How much is the difference between the QO and the minimum for Powe?

QQ:

1,030,189 plus luxury tax = 2,060,378

Min., signed at the half of the season:
(assuming Powe will be back before all-star game)

825,497/2 plus luxury tax = 825,497

So yes, that's a lot of difference. (1,234,881)

Resign Leon for the vet min. for this season. The Celtics should give him a chance to prove himself yet again. This injury won't keep Leon down. Good Luck Leon!

I like how Danny is lowballing people. Leon has had a lot of injuries so he'll be begging on his knees (yuck, my minds in the gutter) for a contract.

prediction: lakers lose odom but sign leon powe. I love leon but we need the roster spot and the added financial flexibility particularly with eddie re-upping. Also , Rasheed or some other FA aside, this shows we want baby back. In a perfect world we keep Baby and wind up with wallace or some other big man ( Gortat,Pachulia etc) that gives our front court depth. Wallace doesn't have leon's post game or interior toughness but he has length which we need and he's a legitimate threat from downtown which helps open the floor up. him, perk and kg would be formidable front court along with Baby. This doesn't solve the backup problem for Pierce though and if the wallace deal falls through I'd give serious thought to jamario moon even though I don't think he is a full MLE player./ He';s jsut not consistent enough yet to warrant that type of contract. Still, he might be our best option there. Hopefully walker or giddens turn into players we can use or trade. I gotta believe danny is looking to move tony allen and/or scal if he can to open up roster space and get some more wiggle room financially.

Not surprising but a sad day nonetheless.

I hope he somehow finds his way back onto this team. He's a warrior.

Good luck Leon.

Behind KG, Leon Powe is my 2nd favorite player, not only on the Celtics, but in the NBA, so this hurts me a lot and I hope he gets well soon and hopefully we pick him back up asap.

I STILL think he's much better than Big Baby. The only reason everyone's so high on BBD is b/c he was forced to do all that stuff b/c he was the only healthy PF left on the roster, and he even had some horrible games. Powe is MUCH more efficient, a better rebounder and defender and he's one of the top 10 players at getting to the FT line.

GET WELL SOON LEON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I assume (slash hope) that DA completely plans to bring Leon back. I think its just a situation where a.) we could use an extra roster spot entering FA, b.) we want to do what we can tob oost BBD's trade value, and c.) we don't expect Powe to get more than a min offer with his current situation, anyway, so we assume we can leave him unrestrictedand then sign him later in the offseason without risking much for the time being.

This sucks, but business is business.

I did like how Boston is still letting Leon see its doctors so he doesn't have to spend his own dime.

Classy move!

This doesn't mean anything people...

The QO gives the right to match - with Powe rehabbing for most, if not all, of this season there is likely very little chance that any team offers him more than the minimum...I'd expect most teams to do the same and wait it out until he's ready to play or offer him a min deal once more pressing needs are met.

I fully expect Ainge to offer Powe the min after the summer's big activity is over with - there is no rush though - nobody is going to be beating down Powe's door to sign him, so Boston doesn't have to either...

I love Leon, I really do. One of my favorite Celtics right now, but he's the odd PF out. Davis fits the team more, is healthy, and we're looking to pick up Sheed. There just wouldn't be the minutes for him here and the team just can't waste a roster spot hoping he'd get those minutes once he's healthy. I'd like to say we owe him more/a guaranteed contract, but really, we gave him his opportunity in the NBA when likely no one else would. I do really hope he finds a place somewhere.
