In 2010 does Dwyane Wade fit in Ray Allen's salary cap slot?

In 2010 does Dwyane Wade fit in Ray Allen's salary cap slot?

Post#1 » by Octolor » Tue Jul 7, 2009 4:07 am

My question is, can we sign Dwayne Wade to a max offer if we let Ray Allen walk at the end of the year ( a straight up trade works in the trade checker?)

Have to say, from everything that Wade is saying he is gone from Miami at the end of the season.

If the Heat don't trade him at the deadline (they probably will) he would look great in green.

We have to re-sign Rondo.. and just added 6 mil more with Sheed, we arent a max player destination in 2010

Durant in 2011 on the other hand ;)

No.

We will still be close to or over the cap, given the Sheed signing, not to mention our LLE guy.

Yeah, only way would be to sign and trade after this season--or trade at this year's deadline---so I doubt it--but I also doubted we'd get KG....Danny seems to have a plan though...considering the type of contracts the C's currently have.

We wouldn't have to re-sign Rondo until next summer. Given how free agency has treated the current crop of restricted free agents, I doubt the market will vastly improve in 2010 with Wade/LeBron/Amare/Dirk/Bosh all looking for max deals.

Replacing Ray with Wade would be a huge coup for DA, and I don't think the dollars would be a huge factor if you could trot out: Rondo/Wade/Pierce/KG/Perk with Sheed off the bench.

If we get Wade it would have to be in a trade of some sort. We are going to be able to just sign a max player any time in the foreseeable future. I think it might make sense to extend Ray for a year so we can trade him next summer if we want. A sign and trade could also work but Ray likely won't get a max deal and it would be hard to get him to agree to a sign and trade if he doesn't want to go to Miami. I agree that Danny does seem to have a plan. I think he always has a plan.

And like most I hope this plan of his is to get Kevin Durant in 2011. Let the 2010 storm play out, we'll keep our team as is. Then 2011 when no one has cap space, we'll be looking good. Sign KD.

I would prefer to resign Rondo and attempt to sign Durant longterm after next season. Conversely, Wade should stay in Miami. It's a warm weather team which he prefers I believe.

Don't we have to resign Pierce in 2011?

"Salary slots" like this haven't existed since the 80's or early 90's.

The Sheed deal kills any chance of cap space and it wasn't a great option anyhow. If it is Wade it will have to be a trade.
