Any feasible trade scenario that can work for all three teams?
The one unknown variable is how much is Toronto going to pay Marion in the sign-and-trade? The full MLE? And why would Dallas need to "sweeten the pot?" I assume this will mean a future draft pick and cash consideration. Because why would Toronto want players back? They don't desire to take on new salaries, I thought.
In desperate need for help on the wing, the Mavericks are pursuing Toronto free agent Shawn Marion in a possible sign-and-trade. Dallas doesn't have any cap space and has locked up its mid-level exception in an offer to restricted free agent Marcin Gortat, but does have valuable chips to dangle.
The most valuable is Jerry Stackhouse, who has a $7 million contract for cap purposes for next season but only a $2 million buyout. Any team that trades for Stackhouse can waive the veteran swingman by Aug. 10 and save $5 million.
A sign-and-trade for Marion would likely require at least a third team to make the salaries work. The Mavs would also be expected to sweeten the pot, possibly with other players, cash, draft picks or a combination of the three.
