OT-dallas should be fun to watch next year

Post#1 » by Spin Move » Thu Jul 9, 2009 6:51 am

With the Shawn Marion trade dallas can potentially trot out a small ball linuep of Dirk at C, Marion at PF, Josh Howard at SF, Jason Terry at SG and Jason Kidd at pg, sure it wouldnt be able to defend most teams that well but it will sure be alot of fun to watch Marion thrives with a good pg like kidd and having that many scoring options should make for alot of wide open shots.

Yeah, you guys are a contender now

Better watch out for the spurs. I think we will see a Celtics-Spurs final next year

I don't see that team being that good. Dirk is not a center. Marion is not a PF. They will get creamed inside. The whole "small" ball may work for a bit in a game, but at the end, it will fail. Dallas will be fighting for the playoffs again. Who is playing defense on that team? Marion?

To me it depends how much/little Kidd declines. If he can maintain a status quo I think that is a pretty good team. I'm skeptical that Kidd will hold up though, this past year was essentially a contract year for him and he played better than he had the previous two years when he seemed to be in decline. I don't know if he will keep it up now that he got his contract.

LMAO. every year they trot out an assemblage of Cuban-enriched overpaid allstars, plus tissue-soft Dirk, and then are surprised when they don't win squat.

they aren't a contender. they can't defend like a contender. cuban has never learned the lesson that defense wins championships. he just tries to get all the most awesome xbox players he can on one team. but in the actual NBA that doesn't win.

I wonder if this trade is actually a sign Josh Howard is on the move? Marion and Dirk at Forward, Damp at C, Kidd at PG, and a trade to get a solid SG wouldn't be bad.

Damp / Hollins
Dirk / Bass (re-signed)
Marion / Shawne Williams
(TRADE) / Terry
Kidd / Barrea

That's not half bad depending on how much talent they can get for Howard. And they still have the ability to go small with Dirk and Marion playing the 5 and 4 at times.

I'm pretty sure they will start Howard at 2 and Marion at 3. And don't forget they signed Gortat.

Yeah, my initial thought was where does Marion start if Howard is a small forward too. Then I recalled that there were rumors that Howard was on the block. I still think he'll be traded. For now, I assume Terry will start at the off guard position along side Kidd. But he's an ideal player to come off the bench like Gordon did for the Bulls or Ginobili with the Spurs. If not, then maybe Howard moves to shooting guard and Marion starts at small forward along side Nowitzki.

If Dallas decides to move Howard. They have to consider acquiring another guard, a point guard or a shooting guard.

Kobe Bryant hasn't retired yet...

It will be interesting to see if the Mavs shift to a more uptempo offense though...

Man, that's a soft soft frontcourt. Imagine what Perk, KG, Sheed could do to 'em.
