Lofton reminds me of Dana Barros. Anybody else?

Gabe's definitely forced a few shots. Not impressive.

Bill Walker has been throwing down filthy dunks all night!!! I'm really hoping he can earn a spot in the rotation because I love this kid.

Don't sign those kids. They are really pathetic. Don't know how to win.

1. Fazekas choked
2. Giddens is too unselfish and needs to shoot more
3.Unless Walker develops some kind of an outside shot he'll never make it
4/ Lofton can shoot but do we need another small shooting guard?
5. Coby Karl is ok; he has decent size and can handle the ball abit

Giddens and Walker look terrible. If they can`t even stand out in SL then we can pretty much forget about them being anything special in the NBA...

It means nothing. Both Delonte West and Rondo were VERY mediocre in SL. Tony Allen OTOH was a total stud.

http://www.nba.com/celtics/summerleague ... stics.html

For example. Rondo with 9.3 points on .409 shooting and 1.3 assists per game. Truth is you can't say much about SL one way or the other. You can't draw any conclusions from it.

Check out TA.

http://vegassummerleague.nba.com/teams.cfm?team=1

Not only did Tony average 16.8 points on 56% he had 1.8 assists (more then Rondo)..Truth be told we haven't had a SL performer as good as Tony Allen since Kedrick Brown was around.. Though Al Jefferson looked pretty special in that first game he played..

SL doesn't mean jack. I am so tired of people jumping to conclusions about it. I been watching it for years. It JUST DOESN"T MATTER. Those announcers might be douches but they get that right.

Agreed Clinch,

You also have to remember that the coaching staff is looking for different things from different players - everyone got on Al Jefferson's case for not "dominating" his last SL, yet the team wasn't asking him to score the ball...but everyone freaked out about it...

Walker can shoot the mid-range J pretty decently - a couple game sample size isn't enough to draft a scouting report off of...Walker and Giddens i'm sure could have jacked 20 shots each and put up big stats, but they were being asked to read situations and show they could play a team game with other players being featured as well...

Training camp will be the ultimate proving ground for these two - and I believe they will both impress with their improvement.

That's all true, but the fact is we have to make a decision on Gabe before TC, as well as other guys.
So who do you think gets to come to TC? Do we pick up Gabe's option?
Of course SL doesn't make the final decsision, but it is worth something.

Peter is absolutely right.

Yet, I still enjoy watching the fellas on the board year after year getting too excited or too down on players based on summer league play. It's amusing, to say the least.

As far as Jefferson goes, wasn't he going through the ankle/bone spur situation and none of the doctors were onto it yet?

Exactly. We don't really know how these guys faired for this reason. As I mentioned before in the thread where people were complaining about how we "lost" a SL game - they don't care about that. They will sometimes ask specific players to do specific things to evaluate their game. Those may be things they do at a lower level.

It's more like a tryout (like you might have had in college or HS). Its not the guy with the best stats win. Its not even like in NBDL where the teams at some level are trying to win to please fans.

If there is one thing I have learned being a fairly devoted hoops fair over the years - its do not underestimate the coaching staff. Most of the draft picks mistakes just came about because they didn't get a chance to evaluate guys in a proper situation. When given time they can make correct decisions that seem bewildering to us fans who haven't seen these guys the way they have.

Big Baby Davis is a good example. He was beyond awful statistically for most of the year but the coaches new he could play better - and he did.

Pete
