Does Brandon Bass set the level for Baby?

Orlando according to WIRETAP has reportedly signed with Orlando for $18 million over 4 years. Where does this put Big Baby in regards to negotiations?

Something in that range. I would figure thats right around the maximum amount we would match.

I think it puts Baby in negotiations with another team, not the Celtics.
Let's sign and trade him.

Makes me feel really bad for Leon Powe. I'd say he would have gotten somewhere between what Bass got and what Milsap is going to get (which is outrageous by the way - $8 mil/year????).

Millsap is worth what he's going to get.
Powe wouldn't have received any more than Bass or Baby.

if BBD gets that contract, I don't think we match.

But really, who's left now? Detroit? NOH?

I think that's borderline on what we would match...

It's not the housing market. The NBA market is a small. If one owner overpays for one player - not every owner has to follow suit. The Hornets spent alot for Posey. But that didn't set the market for Barnes to make similiar money..

18 million over 4 years sounds about right for Baby as well. You can bet the Cs would snap that up.

It certainly kills the S&T market for Davis, at 4 mil bucks he returns a 2mil dollar contract, I guess you can build a bigger deal around but the reality S&T for less than 5 mil bucks on a BYC is a pain in the ass.

It would be nice to have Davis back anyhow, sick of developing guys and having them leave.

Right on, Sully. I'd hate to see the time and love spent in developing Davis be wasted to watch him fully bloom on another team.

Retaining Davis is probably the most viable way of improving our team at this point, relative to our remaining options if we were to lose him in free agency. That fact alone should bring him back into the fold.

Just imagine if Baby walks--we'd have 3 holes to fill (4th big man, backup wing, backup point guard) with the LLE, veteran minimum contracts, and trades. We'd have to get lucky again, like we did w/Posey and House in 2007, for that to work out in our favor. Otherwise, we're going to be looking at some stiffs occupying some semi-important spots on this team. I say, sign Baby, and hope the LLE is good enough to lure a decent wingman or backup point. Then use our expiring mid-season if necessary to fill in around the edges.
