He wasn't even on our summer league team. Not a chance he comes over. If we sign a 3rd string C. Its prob going to be Robert Swift.

Semih-endorsement
New Raptors forward Hedo Turkoglu believes fellow Turkish player Semih Erden will eventually make the Celtics’ roster.

The Celtics drafted Erden, who turns 23 July 28, with the 60th pick in 2008. The 6-foot-11-inch, 240-pounder played for Fenerbahce Ulker of the Turkish league last season and is expected to try to make the Celtics in 2010-11. Turkoglu said he speaks to his national team teammate regularly to offer encouragement.

“He’s long, he’s [nearly] 7-foot,’’ said Turkoglu, while playing for the Magic in the NBA Finals. “I hope he comes. He’s young. I wish I could see more Turkish players here representing themself, their family, and the country, too. I know he got drafted by Boston. Hopefully, he’ll make the decision when he thinks he’s ready and asserts himself.

“I think he has a chance to make this league. There are not a lot of big bodies in this league right now. He’s young and he’s lucky that he’s playing in [a high level in] Europe right now at that age. All he needs to do is come out and see if he is ready or not. That’s the only way you can find out because that’s what I did when I was 20. I said, ‘This is my time to see where I’m at and if I’m good enough.’ I’m good enough to be here.’’

Why are we talking about him?

He'll never touch an NBA floor.

He's very typical - thin, can shoot, has shown signs of a nice post game, but doesn't have the play style that will work in the NBA.

Forget it ... let it go ................

I wouldn't go so far as to say he'll never play in the NBA.

Just not in Boston this year.

I laughed when Danny said that last year, Danny always says what people want to hear which is why I never take anything he says seriously

Semih Erden is not walking through that door, Ben Pepper and Josip Sesar are not walking through that door. If they do they're going to be old and grey.

These guy's all suck, let it go.

But why even draft a guy if you have no plans which include him though??? Especially a Euro. Can't you just forfeit the pick?

I don't know, but why would you forfeit a pick? You would rather have nothing than something?

If someone comes up to you and says, "here, roll this 500 sided dice. If you land on 27, I'll grant you anything you wish. If you don't land on 27, I will just walk away and never bother you again," would you say, "no thanks, I'd rather forfeit my chance"?

Personally I'd say, "what the ****, where did you get a 500 sided dice," but that's just me.

I would definitely take the roll! My point view is that Danny saw something he liked to select him. A shot in the dark would just be a big waste of scouting effort! There is something there or else why select him?

It may not be saying much, but I like his raw skill set more than Patrick O'Bryant. He doesn't look like he has Patrick's wingspan but makes up for it in athleticism; moves much more like a 6'8" player than a 7-footer and is very fluid with good agility for a man his size. I wouldn't dismiss him so quickly.

Bring him over Danny!

Saw some film on him and I think he is one of those guys where his skillset is better suited for the NBA than Euro leagues. He's got sick size, average shot, and a little mean streak in him. Still young, too. Not too bad.

As I understand it, he was injured the first part of the last season (thus slowing down his progress) and is signed with his Turkish team for this upcoming year. There is little point for a team over the luxury tax to do a Europe contract buyout for a guy who would likely go to the DLeague. This will be the year to watch how he does in Europe, because next summer is the likely point of him coming over. Awful close to 0% probability he was ever coming over for this upcoming season.
