I live in NYC and let me tell you I saw Marbury play a bunch of times. For a cancer he hustled and played well on a lot of bad teams. The major evil of Marbury was that he was a good player on alot of bad teams. Tinsley OTOH has a bad attitude; doesn't always hustle; doesn't keep himself in shape and has alot of suspect injuries. Not to mention he is a can't shoot guy something we don't need.

I completely agree with this post. What were Marbury's off-court issues that everyone keeps talking about? That he didn't get along with one of the worst GMs in history and then got forced out by the new coach with a bunch of BS manufactured drama?

Before he came to the Celtics, he hadn't played in a year and was coming off ankle surgery. Give him another year with the team and to get his legs underneath him and he'll come around. He's a better player than Tinsley, proved willing and showed what he could provide in a backup role here, and is much less of a cancer, seeing as he actually had a good relationship with some of our players, whereas Tinsley's punched Paul.

Yes, LeBron should know what bad karma means, it happened again for him this past season for Cleveland.

LeBron James smoked marijuana during his junior year in high school. Three other members of the Akron St. Vincent St. Mary starting five smoked with him. Another drank alcohol.

All this took place in a hotel room in Akron the players "had gotten access to," in the guarded words of "Shooting Stars," a book to be released in September. It amounts to James' life story through his tumultuous high school years.

Co-author Buzz Bissinger, whose "Friday Night Lights" is considered one of the best books on high school football ever, writes "Shooting Stars" in James' voice. The title comes from the name of James' first AAU team in Akron, but it has other meanings. A shooting star in astronomy is actually the blazing path a meteoroid traces as it enters the Earth's atmosphere and burns out. It is not shooting, but falling.

James' junior season ended in the only state championship game he lost, a result, he feels, of the arrogance he and the rest of the team developed after he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated on Feb. 18, 2002. He calls it "karma," a key concept of various Indian religions. Here, it means bad habits that developed during the season led to an unsatisfactory end to it.

There's a huge difference between smoking some bud as a kid, which a very solid chunk of America has done, and being a grown man and consistently getting into fights or being involved in some gun incident.

Guy hasn't played in almost 2 years and is a complete bonehead, not just in a basketball sense, but in life. Why would he even be a consideration?

Fortunately, the players and managements have a much better idea of what kind of people they're considering.

E.g., fans are ready to hate Wallace and presume him to be a bad teammate because of his technicals. Who shows up at the press conference? A smart, thoughtful, family man whom his teammates all loved and who is committed to winning and sacrificing for his team.

I think the same holds for a guy like Marbury, who grew up in typically rough circumstances, but those actually in the NBA know more of who he really is.

Lots of these guys have had attention centered on them for their play since they were very young, and yes, may have some narcissistic tendencies and limited educations that can be easy to laugh at. But again, those actually in the NBA and playing with them know what kind of people they are, and I trust Doc, Danny and the C's veterans to make good judgments there.

All I know is Pacer fans hated Tinsley's guts. Mark Blount was a fan favorite in comparison.

I don't think Tinsley is the right move here..

Guys...you're making it too complex.

Forget the off-court baggage...he will not be in a position with any other team for it to become as important as it was in Indiana.

The question with Tinsley will always be..."Can he stay on the floor?"

Take a look at his games missed prior to last season on Basketball-reference.com.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

For every player name someone throws out that has made bad decisions either on or off the court, I can name a player who has matured and became an asset to a team.

Chris Anderson anyone?

I don't see how giving a guy like Tinsley a training camp spot would hurt anything. Worst case scenario we have a knucklehead on the end of the bench that we can ignore and not lose a beat on the court (such as the marbury experiment could have fared). Best case scenario we steal a guy who is more mature from hitting rock bottom, is still in his physical prime, and can give us quality backup minutes providing our great scorers the ball (dude can pass, i used to love watching him play). Not to mention he would get all the pre-season team orientation, which Marbury missed.

I'll like to believe that the chances of Tinsley getting injured decreases with him as a backup as oppose to starting and playing more minutes.
