Re: Wiretap: Daniels Commits to Boston
anyone else getting more surprised/concerned w/each day that this doesn't become official?
I mean, I don't know if concerned is the right word, but I mean it's been 6 days. If the S & T isn't working, then why haven't they just signed him w/the Bi Annual already? I mean what the hell is taking so long? There are only so many players the C's will trade for him, so it shouldn't be this hard IMO.

Paul Pierce said it best about Caron Butler and the AS 2007 Game:
"Caron Butler should send me flowers for being injured so he could make the All-Star game, because if I was healthy, he wouldn’t be in there.”

He sports that avi in honor of pacerfan...a great Pacer board moderator who died of cancer last year. I was surprised to see he still had it, but I can tell you it's just one of the reasons that the vets of the Pacer board have such a great deal of respect for shackles.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Gotcha. Sorry to hear about pacerfan. I was just confused seeing the Avatar and reading we as in the Celtics.

from Mike Wells Indy beat writer.
The Pacers still are having ongoing talks with the Boston Celtics about a sign-and-trade with Marquis Daniels. The Pacers are thought to have interest in Tony Allen and J.R. Giddens.

Re: Wiretap: Daniels Commits to Boston
That would be good, only because Giddens makes a lot of money for a guy we probably aren't going to play. We can also get Daniels on a multi year deal which eliminates the Eddie House/James Posey situation, we likely would have had to give Daniels a player option on the LLE and that means we burn it and then likely loose him or have to use the MLE to keep him if he has a good year.
That is a solid something for nothing deal for the Pacers as well. Could not find a better situation for TA than IND. A defensive minded head coach and a team with little of it that needs an athletic wing player, if he can knock down the open 3 he could actually get the mins he needs.

The problem is the Celtics would have to give Daniels a deal starting at about $5.2 million ($2.6 BYC) and I don't believe the Celtics want to do that for Daniels. This brings Diener into play I don't think the Celtics want him either.

Re: Wiretap: Daniels Commits to Boston
Daniels is not a BYC he is taking a pay cut from 7 mil to whatever we give him BYC does not apply. It is a straight up trade. By using TA and Giddens we can give him a deal that starts from about 3.5 to 4.4 I believe.

I thought the same, his contract ended and is signing a new one as an unrestricted FA... thus no BYC?

Re: Wiretap: Daniels Commits to Boston
If it's a sign and trade and the Celtics give Daniels $5.0 in the 1st year then I believe Indy can only take back $2.5 million in salary. Correct me if I am wrong but that's my understanding. So if the Celtics give TA & Giddens then Daniels salary has to start at $5.2 million.

I think you are right because he is signing for less than he made last season. My mistake.

Re: Wiretap: Daniels Commits to Boston
if it's TA and Giddens get this friggen thing done. We should thank Indy just for taking TA off our hands. The least we could do is give them Giddens too.
Let's go Danny.

Re: Wiretap: Daniels Commits to Boston
There is no reason for everyone to get their pants in a bunch about this. We went through the same thing with Dan Dickau oh so long ago. Daniels has already agreed to take the 1.9 mil LLE, it will probably be for two years with the second a player option. Boston is trying to move out a contract to free up a roster spot and give him more money and not be in a situation were he is a non bird FA next season. They would also continue to have the LLE to sign another player this year or next.
At the moment IND was not blown away by Ainge's offer of Scal, add to that they are in the middle of a bunch of much more significant roster moves, so doing a S&T with Boston for a player who has already agreed to sign there and they no longer have an interest is not a front burner issue. I think the two teams have some options and they want to kick those around and it may depend on other signings and whether they can be come part of much larger trade that has value.
There is certainly no need to rush to satisfy some kooks on a message board.
