Re: OT: NBA on the defense over age requirement
I hate the "fight for your country" crap.
First off, you got to be 21 to drink and essentially 26 to rent a car. That's the deal. The NBA is a draft. If you want to be fair then eliminate the draft and salary cap.
No one has a right to be paid millions by an NBA club, despite what some of these guys think.
The NBA is a business. They are not interested in "being democratic," they are interested in putting the best product out there.
Two points:
1. The straight to the pros player nearly destroyed the NBA with the Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler draft and the lack of buzz with these players coming into the NBA was a PR nightmare. Add to that, the development process of a high school player and some teams wait 5-6 years before they see fruition of a draft pick. The NBA isn't designed to be that, and the NBA was a worse league for having those high school players ride the pine. It's good NBA business to have a more mature league.
2. The high school player is welcome to go to Europe or play somewhere else. The NBA prospect can also choose to go work at McDonald's. No one is saying the kid can't work.
The less immature projects are stuck at the end of NBA benches, the better for the game. If I had my druthers, I would require 3 years like essentially baseball and the NFL.

Spin Move wrote:Congress has an age limit, try running for the house or senate when your 18, you can't do it.
Best answer I've seen on this subject.
