Wiretap misquotes/twists Doc's words

Post#1 » by chakdaddy » Sun Aug 2, 2009 9:17 pm

That headline up there is a brutal misinterpretation, saying that Doc says 9 or 10 teams are title contenders.

If you click on the article, Doc says that 9 or 10 teams THINK they can be title contenders.

That's not even close, and I wonder if whoever put that on the wiretap even read the article. Terrible.

It's pretty much standard for them to mess up the wiretaps in some fundamental way. When they wiretapped the Okafor/Chandler trade, they mentioned how the Hornets were receiving a first round draft pick, too. This is because the source they used said that the Hornets were receiving the Bobcats' first round draft pick Emeka Okafor. It's annoying because so many people on the general board just read the headlines, or don't look too closely at the wiretaps, which starts multiple page arguments based on misconceptions.

Here's an MSM example: A picture of Gates' arrest, with the caption falsely saying

he was arrested while trying to force open the front door of his home last week.

No matter what you think about the incident, you probably agree that the "while" is more than a little bit misleading.

I thought this had to be a misinterpretation.

Yeah when I read that title I didn't even bother reading it. I knew it was BS somehow.
