Re: The best starting power forward/center tandems?
and to be honest when it comes to big men, I like to look at the 3 man rotation and I think Lakers would rank better just b/c of speed (with 1/2 court finals game I am hoping we would win that battle).
Outside of Lakers/Celtics the bigs rotation is not a match with other teams. I don't think Orlando is that strong, without Hedo and having the ball in vince hands I am not sure how effective their subs would be.

I agree 100% with this statement. Remember, defense wins championships.

Re: The best starting power forward/center tandems?
Bynum-Pau is mostly hype at this point. Pau and Lamar has been by far the most substantial combo for the Lakers. Everyone thinks Bynum is already this giant superstar it seems but in reality Lamar played twice as much as Bynum during the playoffs. Bynum is no better than Perk at this point, with Perk probably the more valuable player right now, especially in the playoffs where Bynum was terrible while Perk shined....

Haywood-Jamison are somewhere in the mix.
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Duncan + McDyess >>>> Gasol + Bynum
Still not sure if this will actually be the starters, but...
Dirk + Marion >>> Gasol + Bynum
Now if you include the first big off the bench the Celts and Lakers are clearly the best because Odom and Sheed are so much better than other backup (and better than Perk/Bynum too).

LOL JaBynum.
But I'd have to go with Kareem Abdul Jabbar + anyone. Well, almost anyone.
In his prime, Jabbar was good for 35 ppg @ 8%, and 13 to 17 rpg, with a few assists.
It doesn't take much from a PF to make this the leading tandem.
Plus, his defense was awesome.

Center Power Forward Tandem KG & Perk are at the top because of one thing....they complement each other and work well in the team D; Bynum and Gasol get in each others way but might be better in the offensive sense; No one plays the nasty "D" like KG and Perk working together....

A lot of you want to say a combo is better without seeing them on the floor yet.

None of our bigs are fast, you act as if we pulled a page from the run and gun teams and won a title. We tore Orlando apart in the Finals running our Triangle offense to damn near perfect precision.aboubata wrote: I think Lakers would rank better just b/c of speed (with 1/2 court finals game I am hoping we would win that battle).
I'm quite sure you've seen Bynum run down the floor, our only big with decent speed is Odom. If we ran as you seem to imply, having all the size we have is useless.
Bottom line is KG and Perk are probably the best defensive combo up to this point, not so sure you can say Pau and Bynum are tops yet. Not until Drew gets a good amount of time in with Pau.

Re: The best starting power forward/center tandems?
What Hollinger neglects to mention is if the PF/C combo even makes sense together. KG and Perk need heavy consideration because they are by far the best defensive 4/5 duo (which is essentially the most important aspect in a combo) and unlike Gasol/Bynum, make a lot of sense along side each other.
Bynum and Gasol play slightly worse alongside one another than they do individually...unlike KG and Perk who make one another better.
Also, wasn't it the KG/Perk duo that absolutley abused Gasol and the Lakers in the finals just several years ago? Granted Bynum wasn't there, but it was enough of a whooping to assume he wouldn't have made the difference in big man play.

Don't get me wrong boys, I really like our big men because they are great defensively, and perk is starting to come around offensively. BUT if you ask me in terms of stats, I would have to say that Mehemet Okur and Carlos Boozer have to rank top 3. I don't know which is the best but it's clearly not Gasol and Bynum. Honestly is Bynum worth all the money they gave him? I'm not sure he is worth it.....he's very injury prone. Also who complains about not getting enough minutes to close out games when you've been back from injury just 10 games ago? I don't like Bynum, he just sounds and acts like a big baby whom is milking that fact that he's big and strong and has some talent. Don't think his head is on right though which is off setting his potential.

Re: The best starting power forward/center tandems?
How is he very "injury prone", when he's only had two injuries in which his teammates inflicted the injury itself ? You do understand the meaning of injury prone right ? That would fit guys like Grant Hill and T-Mac........guys who can never stay completely healthy.JSABleedsGreen wrote: Honestly is Bynum worth all the money they gave him? You're beating on a dead horse here, and your facts are still wrong. He was frustrated at not getting a chance to get into the flow of the game, he never mentioned anything about closing out. He was never in games at the end even before he got hurt.JSABleedsGreen wrote: Also who complains about not getting enough minutes to close out games when you've been back from injury just 10 games ago?
You're entitled to your opinion on how you feel about him, but that's because you don't know how he is. Drew is a quite, level headed guy. He wants to be better than good and I can enjoy that, because he works extremely hard in the off seasons.JSABleedsGreen wrote: I don't like Bynum, he just sounds and acts like a big baby whom is milking that fact that he's big and strong and has some talent. No one will know if he was worth the money until his teammates stop hurting him. DEEP3CL already stated that your facts are off. Drew has shown flashes of being better than just a good Center. You can even see the difference in the look on Perkins face when they match up now.
The year you guys won it all Perkins was a man against a boy without a doubt, When we played you guys on Dec. 25th you could see in Perk's face that he was playing an entirely different player. Not just skill wise but strength wise.

One game? Please. Bynum is still in the unrealized potential category. He has shown *flashes* of this and that. Great play, good play, inconsistent play and injuries. When he puts together a full season solely consisting of the first two, he may then be considered a top flight center. Not until then. You could make similar claims for Greg Oden based on *certain* games. Gotta do it every night, not just here and there.
