A second year option makes more sense because Boston can give 2.5 mil on a 20% raise just using his non bird FA exception. With the option he also would have a no trade, that he doesn't on a two year deal. Of course there may be an "understanding" that a suitable extension is coming when he has early bird rights in two years as he will only be 30 years old.

The other thing that we can agree to is that we help him get his Posey type payday. It seems to me our negotiating strategy with Posey was not match any offer, but rather offer him a minimum market clearing offer. This allowed Posey to get an even better contract by running a league auction.

Daniels could be in a very similar spot at the end of this year or next.

It's a 1-year deal, according to the Herald.

Still, props to Daniels for taking less money to join a team with legit championship pedigree. you don't see that too often these days. hopefully he plays well and gets rewarded next year by us.
