My two cents.

Post#1 » by hiphop1 » Sat Aug 29, 2009 11:54 pm

Before last years draft i was a big supporter of us takin Bill Walker, and was absolutley stoked when we traded for him. And was even more pumped after watchin that game in Amherst when he dunked on Ratliff.

But watching the few games he and Giddens played and reading about the dleague play, also reading articles about the two I am starting to think that Giddens might be the better total player. He has a way more complete game than Walker, sure Walker has the athleticism and highlight dunks, but Giddens has him beat on the defensive end and with his shot, though that is not sayin much. And Giddens is now slouch on the athleticism side, he can hold a candle to Walker.

The only thing Walker truely has Giddens beat at is his toughness. Which is what this team is built on and could always use more of. But that being said I think teams are more interested in Walker because of his flash which is fine with me they can have him because flash does not win championships, solid consistent play wins rings and thats what the Celtics are all about.

Thats my two cents and im stickin to it.

Since you and most of us on here, haven't seen enough of either, lets not pass judgment till they get real playing time.

same. Lets see what they can actually do on the court before we get too excited about either one of them.

What is any of this based on? There are actually stats from the D league play Walker was a much better 3 pt shooter (similar number of attempts) and FT shooter.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/nbd ... /2009.html

Giddens can't play SF, he is a SG who, as their MO, the team was hoping could play some PG. Walker is a classic swing man who can guard both the 2 and 3. Walker has better size, is younger, and frankly has always been the better player.

Everyone can have their opinion and hope for which ever guy they want. But clearly to this point Walker has out played Giddens in the D league and in the NBA. On the positive side for Giddens he seems to have shown significant improvement since last season when he clearly was not ready for the NBA.

I don't have a problem with people thinking that Giddens may be end up the better player, but don't act like there is any evidence of this to this point. Why don't we base this on how they actually play in basketball games.

Agreed, I always liked Giddens better than Walker because Giddens is a good shooter and is very athletic himself.

there's no evidence that giddens will be better than walker but there's no evidence he won't be either. right now nobody knows crap. walker got some pt last year but lets face it, he sucked. giddens got no pt. who's better? who knows?

my totally subjective projection tho is that giddens has a higher ceiling. first, giddens has good size for his position which is SG. walker has ok to poor size for his, SF. giddens has a much better handle and can create a shot for himself or others. walker is a better set shooter but can't create his own shot and can't handle. both have excellent defensive potential and solid rebounding, and both are good finishers. anyhow it's close, and i look forward to seeing who steps up this season.

I think you're right on in your asessment. I watched both of them in the summer league and giddens has more talent. walker is foul prone. I love his toughness though and maybe there is room for both of them. other than baby we don't have any young players on this team to bridge the gap to the next celtics title team . I feel that hudson is going to be a pleasant surprise at the guard spot. the one thing about giddens that annoyed me in the summer was his reluctance to shoot. he needs to get more aggessive offensively. he rebounds well though for a guard and he defends pretty well. he could perhaps become a bruce bowen type of player. he needs to develop the 3 point shot if he's going to get minutes
