PAOK close to Tyronn Lue
2009-09-03 17:06
The rumours which insisted that PAOK was close to signing an NBA player whose name would have an impact in Europe are coming true as the club is close to getting Tyronn Lue.
Lue has great NBA experience as he has played 11 full seasons there after his graduation from Nebraska College in 1998. Last season he had a limited role at Milwaukee Bucks where he averaged 4.7 ppg and 2.2 rpg in 13.1 minutes (30 games), at first, and then at Orlando Magic where he averaged 3 ppg and 1.6 rpg in 9.2 minutes (14 games) later on in the season.

So now what do we do?

The Celtics are fine at point- the best they've been entering the season since the 80's.

Rondo has improved dramatically every year. He can play 36 minutes or more and rest in the Celtics frequent blowout wins. The other 12 minutes can be handled by House (aided by Daniels who covers Eddie's weaknesses).

If that needs bolstering the team has expiring contracts to use later and the vet minimum to use now.

Also Lester Hudson could surprise everyone. He's not a young rookie; he's older than Rondo.

Is there even the slightest indication that Ainge is looking to sign another PG at this point? I don't think the Celtics lost Lue, I think they just weren't interested in signing him.

I have to agree. Ainge will sign someone who's truly worth signing. Maybe Iverson would accept a bench role on the Celtics.. :o

i agree. if Ainge ends up signing another vet, then so be it. But a backcourt of Rondo/Ray with Daniels/House backing up is on one of the best in the league. Many of us here might well remember two years ago when House struggled to being the ball up against the trap, but he's been with the club for a while now and understands the offense better. He's still not a great ball handler; that's why Daniels will be a good match with him.

After those four, we still have Tony Allen to fill in for defense, plus the newcomer Hudson may surprise. Then there is Giddens. We don't know about his decision making ability in the NBA, but in college he showed a pretty good handle and his passing skills were quite good.

I'd say Danny is probably done for now. A few players invited to camp may spark some interest, but there hasn't been much noise out there about Scal and TA being moved, so I expect Lester Hudson will make the team and if that is our 15 man roster on opening night, we'll be just fine. Those expiring contracts will be even more valuable in February so maybe best to hold onto to them and see where our pg situation is. Also, there will be some teams in firesale mode by then--- maybe a Shane Battier-type talent will be available.

agreed.
I'd rather keep Hudson than get Lue.
Daniels and even TA can play PG in a pinch. one of TA's best games as a pro came when he started as PG against the lakers.

Forget Lue, Danny is not interested and we don't need him.

If Lue is signing overseas, that should really tell you something. Along with the fact that he could barely get any PT even after Nelson went down.

The title of this thread is a little dramatic and grammatically incorrect. It's great that Lue won't be a Celtic if you ask me. The pecking order goes like this...

1. Rondo - close to 40 mpg
2. House
3. Daniels
4. TA
5. Hudson

It's not a traditional point guard rotation but that group will excel in a myriad of ways. House is lights-out, and Daniels and TA can get to the basket. Hudson is an enigma but I'm interested to see what he'll bring to the team, and as a 5th option he won't be expected to do anything for a while. The Celts PG situation is better than many people think and if it doesn't work out or someone gets injured then Ainge will make a move closer to the deadline.

Dont you wish TA could somehow improve his handle? Because of Daniels, the only real unmet need we have at the 1 is incase Rondo goes down. Other than that we're more than ok.

This was covered here on Thurs.

I think it will be Lue or Hudson baring a trade, obviously Scal, TA, Giddens, Walker or even Shelden Williams could be cut as well.

I don't think that Boston could do much better than Lue for the job available, at the same time it certainly isn't the end of the world if he isn't here.
