I was just saying he got injured in pre-season, missed the entire year, and we had to replace his minutes from within (probably mostly Tony Allen and Eddie House). I honestly think we would have had a tough time winning 50 games.

50 easy with KG and Pierce healthy, IMHO. You have to remember the opportunity cost involved. Ray is using 19 million dollars in salary slot. That's a heck of a good player you can find for that money, IMHO.

Ray can still get going and shoot lights out on occasion. But his one on one skills, ballhandling, defense, off the ball movement has all been suspect. Not only that but teams don't respect him like they used too. They send a BAD defender (Wally, Reddick) and single cover him. <g>

That would be true if it were the '80s and "salary slots" still existed...
It only works now if there is a team out there that wants to dump a 19 million dollar player who is better than Ray Allen. It's possible that a team out there wants to do a Gasol like dump, but I feel like once we're talking a max salary like that, most guys are either untouchable or are an absolute salary albatross. So we either couldn't trade for him or wouldn't want to.

Of Ray were to miss a whole season, we should be able to get a 9.5 million cap exception; but if that happened in the pre-season, no one would be left to use the money on. A veteran with a season ending injury that occurs before FA season could be a gold mine though - like Yao could have been if he had been on his 2nd or 3rd big contract rather than his 1st.

One of the greatest shooters ever, who was one of the most efficient SGs last year, and the guy who dropped 51 points on the Bulls in the playoffs and would have probably gotten you the win if Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo didn't try to be heroes?

If you really don't want him, we'll be more than glad to take him off your hands this upcoming year.

Exactly we just signed Wallace off a bad year to a 3 year 19 mil contract to come off the bench, but Ray who had one of his best seasons and is not only a starter but our second best offensive player is only worth 4-5 mil a season, so what if there isn't 4 guys better than him at his position. He isn't a top 10 player anymore so give him Mike James money. But at the same time we need to acquire a 7 mil a year player to be our 3rd PG.

Uh we just watched what happens when he isn't healthy, if we didn't have Ray Allen we would have struggled big time.

Trades are trades but we can't spend Ray's money on someone else good luck replacing Ray Allen with the MLE.

My initial reaction is "Great, get it done, give it to him."

But something tells me the Celtics may not settle with Ray until the Rajon Rondo situation
is clearer. And Rajon will cost a lot more than most posters have estimated.
If there was one person on the planet to ask "What's Point Guard (fill in the blank) worth?
It's Bill Duffy, who happens to be Rajon Rondo's agent.

Duffy knows better than anyone. The only question is
Will the Celtics be willing to pay it, or will it be one of the other 29 teams.

But getting back to Ray, I suppose the Celtics will offer Ray less than Rajon.

Probably a two year extension for $8 million per year.

I suppose that's as high, and as long, as the Celtics will go.

Will Ray's ego allow him to sign a two year, $16 million extension.

Probably not. But he should.

You're not going to get Ray Allen back for 2/16 in the summer of 2010, when lots of teams whiff with their free cap space, and then suddenly they're $20 million under cap with a boatload of FAs who can contribute. This is especially the case when his skillset ages very well, and he keeps himself in pretty good shape, and he brings leadership and experience to any locker room.

What point guards do you think Bill Duffy represents?
