Atkins waived, any interest?

Post#1 » by greenbeans » Tue Sep 22, 2009 9:49 pm

Seems like a better option than Tyronn Lue or Lester Hudson.
The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has waived guard Chucky Atkins. The Timberwolves acquired Atkins as part of a trade with Oklahoma City on July 27.

I say no, because the next thread will be "Blount waived, any interest?", and the dialogue on that one should be quite fascinating. No point in using up the last roster spot and kill that discussion.

Does he have anything left in the tank?

The article says Blount's next. Lets get Ricky Davis while we're at it...

Atkins has had two bad years and is now 35, but he was a good player as recently as 2007. So there might be something left yet.

I would have interest but I have an unhealthy obsession with Chucky Atkins, my guess is Ainge and Rivers will probably pass. He was a good pg and probably still is when healthy he just hasn't been healthy for two years and is 34 years old.

Atkins played his best basketball under Rivers in Orlando so, for that reason, the C's will consider it. He might be a good fit but I hope they stand pat for now.

I liked chucky while he was here, good ball handler, he's definently old, probably not going to be a game changer, but he can hit the three... I don't know, he's not that much better or worse than tyrone lue, or any other f.a. out there, so I guess I don't care. Yet I have an opinion...

I think this would be a great signing on the Celtics' part, even if his defense is non-existent. I like House as our back-up point most games, but there will be a lot of games where we need a better ballhandler in there at the point. I would like Atkins in the role of 10 minutes per game in about a third of the games, and sitting on the bench the other two-thirds. And I think he is at the point in his career where he would not have any problems with that role.

I don't want him. Lots of guys like Atkins will be out there if we have an injury and need a 10 day guy.. PG is an easier spot to fill then people think, IMHO.

I want Hudson for that last spot. But if the team insists on getting a vet PG, like any of the other names floated out there recently, I wouldn't mind him.

I'd rather go another route. Atkins hasn't shot a decent 3 point percentage in 3 years and I do see him finding his stroke at the ripe age of 35.

I'd much prefer Tyronn Lue to take up the last spot. Even last year he shot 35% from 3 and is a career 39%. I think he could be solid off the bench in a limited role.

My neighbor's kid said that there's an opening for the 6 AM start time at the nearby Burger King drive-in window. Maybe this could be the start of Chucky's ascension into franchising.
