Scalabrine in my view was always something of an underachiever. I liken him to a Walter McCarty. Both guys had good college careers but could have done more in the NBA. I realize people will think I am crazy but seriously physically there wasn't THAT much difference between Scalabrine and say Walker.

Re: Scal: "I didn't play any basketball."
It all comes down to the injury. If he had just had major knee surgery in early June would he have played this summer? No. But for some reason we don't always consider those injuries that are less apparent to be important. Multiple concussions are not something you can just shake off. The guy couldn't even focus his eyes during the end of the regular season. And all the research into similar cases suggests that further traumatizing the brain can cause irreparable damage and a lifelong chronic condition including pain, cognitive impairment, and behavioral disorders. So it's actually quite a bit more serious than a knee scope or separated shoulder.
He got the contract and that's the way it is-- it wasn't a good signing. Yet this is probably his last year as a Celtics and as a player. He may be able to contribute to the team, if not on the floor then on the bench. And come February Scal may give us the greatest gift of all--- an expiring contract to bring in another piece to the playoff puzzle. But if he stays with the team all year I'm fine with having him as a 15th man, albeit a grossly overpaid one.

Well, I'd rather have 2002-era Walter than Scal, honestly...

eh... they are a wash. you take scal because although waltah tries very hard on D, the skills just aren't there. Both can hit the 3 well but Scal gives you more size.
