Rondo vs Harris head to head last year

Post#1 » by Wolves2011 » Wed Oct 7, 2009 11:12 pm

Rondo completely dominated Devin Harris last year.

Devin Harris
Mth Day PTS FG% FT% Reb Asst TO asst/TO ST
Jan 14 17 56% 78% 2 3 6 0.5 2
Jan 17 7 33% 100% 0 1 3 0.33 1
Mar 4 25 33% 100% 1 11 6 1.83 2
Apr 8 16 38% 80% 0 5 2 2.5 1

Total 65 38% 88% 3 20 17 1.2 6

Ave 16.3 38% 88% 0.75 5 4.25 1.2 1.5

Rondo

Mth Day PTS FG% FT% Reb Asst TO asst/TO ST
Jan 14 11 56% 50% 7 12 4 3.0 3
Jan 17 8 50% 50% 9 14 4 3.5 2
Mar 4 20 64% 66% 5 5 2 2.5 2
Apr 8 31 66% 85% 9 5 3 1.67 3

Total 70 61% 75% 30 36 13 2.77 10

Ave 17.5 61% 75% 7.5 9 3.25 2.77 2.5

Rondo FG% 61% vs Harris 38%,
Rondo Reb 7.5/gm vs Harris 0.8/gm
Rondo Asst 9/gm vs Harris 5/gm
Rondo asst/To ratio 2.77, harris asst/to ration 1.2
Rondo steals 2.5/gm, Harris 1.5/gm

The only category that Harris was better was FT shooting. You might look at Rondo's FT shooting percentage and as how the overall average was so high. He was 11 for 13 in his one good game.

FYI, I did a similar analysis against all of the top point guards last year. Rondo dominated all of them except Chris Paul. They played each other even.

Another interesting thing about Rondo which we all saw after KG was injured and stopped playing.

Rondo's scoring averages immediately jumped. He shot more and scored more. Still scored at a high percentage. He just looked for his own offense more. You can see it in Rondo's games above. Compare scoring and assists the first two games vs the second two games.

Rondo can score at will. He just defers to the Big 3 per Doc Rivers desires.

[Though I"m sure he knows it hides his true abilities from "pink hat" fans, and hurts his ability to get a big contract. Thats the conflict in the locker room. Rondo wants to prove he's worth a max contract. Doc and Danny want to resign him on the cheap, because they already pay so much to the Big 3.]

But Rondo can turn on the scoring at any time. He's unstoppable going to the hoop.

If his jumper improves he might become better than Chris Paul...

Devin Harris isn't close to as good.

Rondo is at his best against good PG's. Just look at the second round of the playoffs last year. Alston? Rondo could care less about that fool.

Head to Head is bunk. The C's signed some scrub PG with Pitino because he lit us up head to head..and that guy sucked.

I looked at the 8 or 10 best PG and compared Rondo head to head...he outplayed them all except Chris Paul.

Look at the playoffs last year. He almost averaged a triple double and was the best player on the Celtics and one of the best in the playoffs.

17 points
10 rebounds [8th in playoffs, "as a PG]
9.8 assists [3rd in playoffs]
2.5 stls [2nd in playoffs]

Will the Rondo fan boys just calm the hell down and accept the reason that the guy avg 12 ppg is on him and not some conspiracy. Instead of staring at his stats watch the games and count how many open jump shots he passes up in the flow of the offense, then track what happens with the possession. For crying out loud the kid would already be avg 15 ppg if he would hit his FT's like a professional.

He is very good and he could be better.

They like have this statistic. It's called PER and it measures how Rondo does vs. EVERY PG. We don't need to rerun stats. Yes Rondo gets up for some of the "big time" guys. He also gets abused by some scrubs now and then..
