Dump Tony and sign a shooter

Post#1 » by Red2 » Wed Oct 14, 2009 1:35 pm

ok, I know no one wants TOny Allen so it's unlikely we can get rid of him but I would love to shed that guy and pick up another small forward /shooter like Udoka from the Spurs who I think is available. Raja Bell would be ideal but I don't think he's going anywhere. GIddens can easily replace TA and at this stage it appears that GIddens has locked up a roster spot as has Hudson. Sweetney and Walker appear to be the guys fighting for the 15th spot and if Danny sees someone cut loose from another team that he likes I wouldn't be shocked to see both of those guys cut. However, Shelden Williams has done nothing and in all honesty but for conditioning, Sweetney has outplayed him from what I can see. Who else is out there as far as shooters go? Did Brent Barry retire? There's still Wally and although he sucks on D he would get wide open shots on this team if he were willing to be a spot player. Udoka has the size and strength to play small forward and he can hit the 3. He would be a nice addition if he's available

Walker earned his spot on the roster with his play as a 21yo rookie last year. He'll be given time now to recover and get into swing this year. I think Sweets may be on the outs, promised at best a mid-season look if he drops a couple of stones by then.

I think Giddens is starting to earn time on that second unit. You need a strong wing defender to pair with Daniels to overcome deficiencies in House's game. And, right now, TA is the best wing defender on the bench beyond Giddens.

Would a shooter/defender type be more ideal? Sure. But they need to first be a defender and then a shooter.

What has Walker done to earn his spot on the roster? I haven't seen anything beyond a couple of dunks.

Dump Tony Allen, sounds good to me. Now the $2.5 million dollar question is who wants him?

did you actually call Ime Udoka a shooter?

LMAO.

the guy hits 43% from the field and pretty much every shot is wide open.

i like Udoka but Tony is a better defender, which is really Udoka's strength. if Tony is healthy he's also a far better player than Udoka.

We are absolutely stacked right now and I want to keep this roster as it is (yes, including TA and Scal). Unless we can unload TA and Giddens or Walker for a player like Bell.

I have a feeling Scal is going to have a big year for us. If he keeps knocking down those three in the corner and keeps playing tough D on big SF's (Rashard Lewis types) then he is set.

I am just loving how Lester is coming on strong and he appears to be a player.

I also love the fact that Marquis has the ability to bring the ball up the court. Its great because if opposing teams want to pressure Marquis they need to put in a pesky guard to make it difficult for him. So what the Celtics will do (and already have done in preseason) is run a play where Quis gets the ball in the post....its beautiful.

Between Sheed, KG, Pierce, Ray, House, and Scal I think we are ok in the shooters department.

If I had to nitpick, I would say we need a good slasher on the 2nd unit that can create their own shot and penetrate and find the open players on the perimeter. That would be deadlly paired with our 2nd unit guys which are mostly shooters. Marquis/House/Baby/Sheed/Scal.

er, that'd be Daniels.
Daniels has had injuries so the backup would be Tony, IMO

For a big, Baby's a slasher, well, more of a musher
