Does Daniels' Playing Style Remind You of Anyone?

Post#1 » by Cyclical » Thu Oct 22, 2009 7:13 am

For me it's Cedric Maxwell. Not quite as good as old Cedric but his slinky, rubbery style around the paint is a throwback to Cornbread. Not quite mid-range, not quite post. Very wiley. Loved the way he played tonight. His outside shot seems a bit inconsistent but everything else is right on point. Jump on his back.

Is there anyone else you see him comparing to? Our man is quite unique.

There. I used '"quite" 4 times in a post.

Quis and Moore might look alike but the comparison stops there. If you actually watch the game you can see the blatant differences. Quis is a very productive 6th man time whereas Mikki shouldn't even be on an NBA court.

Frankly, Daniels reminds me of a playground player. Moves at his own speed, has a bunch of junk shots around the rim that always seem to go in, and he'll run off 6 quick baskets in a row on the same move if they can't stop it. The dude's a killer in the post, and he's seemed to master the in-between shot.

To me, the real story is how we hit the free agent jackpot with this guy. I mean, all the talk in the summer was about how great fits Grant Hill, or Anthony Parker, or Jamario Moon were going to be--but you know what, Daniels is the best of the bunch, AND the best fit on this team. He was killing Moon/Parker last night, making those two look like D-league players... Boston got the best player at the best price. I hope we can find a way to keep him around after this season.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

I'm just here for the memes.

Reggie miller: Posey
Grant Hill: Quisy

Another thing: Daniels' defense has impressed me a ton. His wingspan looks huge and it looks like he messes with offensive passing lanes a lot. He can guard 1's-3's. Outstanding bench player from what I've seen so far.

Remember last year when fans from every team in the league were saying "Damn, why didn't we sign Mickael Pietrus this offseason?" They'll be saying the same thing about Marquis Daniels come June. Book it.

i've been a big Quis fan for a long time, i think he gets severely underrated just because he's a guard who doesn't have a silky jumper. you can have your gerald greens, i'll take guys like Quis who are super active, have a great bbiq, and somehow know how to score. it may not look pretty but 2 pts is 2 pts.

i really wanted Quis but i thought there was no way we could afford him. luckily he's not all about the money (well at least for 1 year anyways).

as for comparisons, i'd say a SG version of Max is not a bad comparison. also antwan jamison has a similar "junk" game. but its a lot easier to do from the PF spot. having his game from a SG spot is pretty unique. nick anderson sort of had that game, but he wasn't exactly wiry.

Agreed...but what I luv about this signing, apart from that he plays well in our system (sa far)...is that he signed for so little....he was willing to take a low deal to get here....HE WANTS TO BE A C!
