I don't understand why everyone (media + fans) are making such a big deal about the ongoing Rondo negotiations. Listen, Ainge and Rivers love this kid. The offseason contract and trade noise was monstly media driven based on comments made my Danny. The media will always twist and turn statements around and make it a big deal. They're trying to sell papers and achieve radio ratings. The BOTTOM LINE is that Rondo is here and will continue to be here for years to come.
Rondo is a RESTRICTED Free Agent. Letting him play out the year is a smart move by Danny. One of two things will happen. 1. Rondo plays great, gets a few offers and Ainge matches whatever offers are out there. In this scenerio Rondo has EARNED his money.
2. For whatever reason Rondo does not play out of his mind this year and his value goes down to a more confortable financial rate.
In either case he's not going anywhere. The only concern with letting Rondo play without an extension is whether or not he'll deploy a bad attitude towards it, which I doubt. He's a professional, he has KG-Paul-Ray-Sheed to guide him.
Everyone take a breather and enjoy the season opener! If we're healthy we're winning this year. Mark it down!

Get ready for a ton of Rondo free throw line jumpers as he is trying to prove to people he is worth $12 million per year. That's the big concern for the Celtics. Rondo has his own agenda which doesn't necessarily make the team better. I don't like it.

Just make sure you don't do it in real life now, sport.
But I do agree, this rondo talk is driving me insane. I just want to focus on the actual game tonight.

dont look to much into it. id rather have them not talk about it now and just deal with it after the summer. we have a championship to take back and we neeed rondo just as much as the big 3 to succeed!

Anyways I agree somewhat with Celts17Pride's comment about Rondo having his own agenda. I still think he is going to play within the teams scheme but I think he has his own little agenda to make sure everyone is seeing what it is that he's about.
I'm a feeling that i'm going to start to dislike Rondo's character a little more and more everyday. Maybe it's because of all these threads but ...... i have a hunch that this kid is a premadonna and hasn't come out of his shell yet because he's got 4 HOF's to put him in his place.
Maybe i'm jumping the gun.....I hope not.......but we'll see.....either way....GAME 1 tonight....let's go Celtics!!!!

Re: Everyone RELAX!
The trouble here is that there is really very little incentive for either side to get this done now.
Rondo feels like he can be an elite player. And you know what? He's right. He can be. He wants the chance to show it this year, and earn his max deal. So he's not motivated to sign now.
Ainge sees a guy who will be a RFA next season. He's already worth $9mil per to Ainge, prob $10 mil if Rondo would take that. Rondo wants $12 mil, and the max is only 12.5 or so. So what's the risk for Ainge? A couple of mil per year? That's not really much. In exchange Ainge gets to see if he actually can make the leap or not. The sure way to financial ruin is to pay second-tier guys the max. If Rondo isn't going to be a top-tier player, Ainge doesn't want to pay him the max. So for Ainge it's a good risk to wait.
So I'm not surprised the deal isn't going to get done. There's little motivation from either side.

These are unfounded concerns, IMO.
The problem is, Doc/Danny WANT him taking those jumpers and in fact it's not taking jumpers which is Rondo's problem, not the fact that they don't go in. He NEEDS to work on taking free throw jumpers in the flow of the game when the defense gives them to him.
Further, Rondo has always been a pass-first point guard and just because he isn't going to get paid right now doesn't mean he'll change his entire game, especially if the Big 3 remain healthy. The criticism has also been that he doesn't shoot enough...so now the Cs are worried he's going to shoot too much! Doesn't make sense.
Rondo's agenda has always been squarely about winning, not about getting his stats and that's been clear from the very beginning. The problems stem from disagreements about the best way to win, not because of any ego concerns about getting his versus getting a win...
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

Rondo should talk to Leon tonight. Maybe that will motivate him.

The C's showed him too little love too late, to me that dude is a witch he just an excellent player that can do it all other than shoot outside 15 feet, but he does everything else wonderfully. I wonder if things would have been different if the C's showed more love sooner.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Danny and Rondo's agent have been back and forth with conversations for about a month now. This is the time frame when these deals get done. This is a negotiating process.
Everyone is acting like it's the end of the world that Rondo didn't sign an extension last night. Oh, let's trade him for Monta Ellis. Riiight. We'll have another chance to sign him next summer or match any other offer he gets. If he develops into a top 3 point guard this year and we win another championship then he will get paid by the C's. This is what we all want to happen. Why not give him a little more incentive to improve his game. While I would love to have Rondo signed right now at 5 years $50 mil, it doesn't really concern me that a deal wasn't reached last night.

It's funny, I knew this would happen. Everyone that said the Celtics can't win with Rondo is going to come out of the woodwork and say the Celtics can't win without Rondo.

No offense DubaLakers.
