Perk's Jumper

Post#1 » by Dirty Water » Wed Oct 28, 2009 6:06 am

I like it. I almost trust it more than Rondo's at this point. I heard he's been working on it pretty hard. Cleveland gave it to him a few times. I was in a bar so I didn't see every single play, but from what I remember I saw him hit it once, then missed it another time (where it did everything but go in before rimming out) then he hit another one but it was after a whistle on a foul away from the ball I think. If he can hit that when he needs to he has fulfilled his duties - we can ask nothing more from him. He has developed into a real good player. Played great defense on Shaq tonight (as good as anyone could do). A lot of Cs played great in Cleveland but I just thought I'd throw him some props. Well deserved I think.

Perk had a pretty good game tonight. Shaq got good looks over him early, but he clamped down on him in the second half.

I feel like he has always had somewhat of a shot, but now he seems to have perfected that little baseline 10 footer. Great tool to have for when those centers collapse down on our drivers. I also feel very confident in this shot.

Perk started taking and hitting the jumper at the end of last season. He looks even better this year. He just keeps getting better and better.

Yea he was hitting those last year, 4-7 last night is a good game. The problem is Perk only had 1 rebound last night I don't like that. If he standing in his mid-range spot and the shot goes up he needs to run to the hoop or it really gonna hurt his offensive rebound numbers.

I noticed Perk's jumper really coming on well this preseason...and I agree with the poster who trusts it more than Rondo's (which is still pathetic!)
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

That little jumper has such enormous potential for the C's - previously Perk really didn't need to be guarded when he got 10 feet from the basket, and the middle got clogged as a result. Not the same range as Davis, but he'll get a ton of open looks as Davis did. Rondo, RA, Pierce driving to the basket, either the lane is going to clear out for them because the Big is covering Perk, or Perk becomes a nice secondary option.

I know it's a slow work in progress, but I really like the fact that Perk continues to work on his game and his fitness. And perhaps I've got selective amnesia, but I can't recall any adverse incidents about Perk in all his time here, he just seems to be a good professional. Not tremendously skilled, but improving all the time. I have a lot of respect for Perk.

I agree 100%. Perk has been a hard working great professional since the day the Celtics drafted him. The Celtics are lucky to have him given the state of centers around the league. The best part about Perk is he is a TEAM PLAYER. Sheed came in for him the last 4-5 minutes of the game and I noticed that Perk was one of the first guys out on the floor congratulating his teammates after the game. All Perk cares about is winning. Kudos for Perk.

I will add to the Perk love fest. He is one of my favorite Celtics. Dave I believe is right, Perk has never had any off the court incidents. His Grandparents did an amazing job raising him. Hopefully he will retire a Celtic.

i don't mind if he shoots one or two of those a game if he is WIDE open, but i'd rather having him crash the offensive glass.

Perk's jumper sure did look nice last night......he had a time keeping Shaq off the boards last night so the rest of the guys could clean the glass so his rebounds too a hit but he had a good game.

Perk's really been developing into one of my favorite players over the past four years. Love his work ethic, effort on the court, his confidence, and his team mentality.

As for the jumper. Remember Baby working on his last year? It may have been frustrating at first, but it paid off in the playoffs. I'm hoping for a similar case with Perk. It's better to work on it now rather than later.

I couldn't believe my eyes last night watching Perk take those short jumpers. I don't recall taking a single short range jumper all of last season so maybe it's something that he's been working on lately.

I really hope he hits that shot consistently as it will really help open the lanes.

Amen to all that. I think his jumper range has improved. And that drop-step move to the hoop was sweet.

He hit like 5 10-12 foot jumpers last year against Houston. It was a weird game. I think the plan was to take Yao out of the paint because it's the only game where Perkins took more then one jumper...he took a lot of them.

Houston game last year 11/4:

Kendrick Perkins makes 18-foot jumper (Ray Allen assists)
Kendrick Perkins makes 9-foot jumper
Kendrick Perkins makes jumper (Rajon Rondo assists)
Kendrick Perkins makes 20-foot jumper (Paul Pierce assists)
Kendrick Perkins makes jumper (Rajon Rondo assists)

Perk's rebounds weren't there last night because he was working so hard to box out shaq, not because he was away from the rim trying to score. Perk is a beast but a healthy Shaq is a load on the boards even for him. He'll be back to normal on the boards tonight.

As for his jumper, it's just one more weapon in the Celtic's arsenal. Against teams with shot blockers I think he is going to get a ton of open looks at those with Rondo, Daniels and PP having he ability to pentrate and dish, even if he hits them I'm sure most teams are going to try to guard the rim before trying to take Perk away, if he can knock down 50% of them it'll be huge for the C's.

I think Perk is the type of a player who never hits his peak and always continue to improve.

WE'll see how it progresses, but I like that all of his shots were from the same spot. I wish Rondo would do that too, like he did during the champ run where he shot ok. Last year he started shooting from all over the court and was worse off for it.
