Marquis Out - Hurt by a Nolan Ryan Fastball. TA In.

Post#1 » by Cyclical » Mon Dec 7, 2009 10:19 am

Asked what aggravated the injury yesterday, Daniels said, “ ‘Nolan Ryan’ Rondo threw the ball and I tried to catch it and it just hit my thumb wrong and it flared up a little bit more.’’

I was wondering why his offense seemed tentative and uneven - that explains it. Let's hope he heals fast. His other wrist caused him to sit out a bunch of games last season.

One down, one up: Tony Allen will replace him, starting this week. Hoping for solid D, slashing to the hoop and minimizing the patented dribble-off-the-foot move. Good luck TA.

Glad Daniels is being sat.....get some rest so it doesn't get worse, it's time to see what Tony has got to give. We know what Scal can do. Tony needs to earn his keep or be traded.

Do other teams have as many practice injuries as the Cs?

At least this one didn't involve Scal as either victim or victimizer.

For that matter, do other teams have as many off-court ones as the Cs? I know it's only one every few years, but there's BBD's fight, Tony's bar fight, Paul's stabbing, plus a couple from the 80s.

Go TA! MD is a better player but TA can still help us here.. He is much better then Giddens. Giddens looks sloppy even in warmups.

TA should be a good replacement for Daniels in the short term. I'm excited to see how he looks, though I was more excited when Daniels was still doing the majority of the ball handling on the 2nd team. With TA replacing Daniels, we go back to the bad dynamic of House/TA 'trying' to be point guards on the 2nd unit. That dynamic hasn't worked for 2 years running...though 'Sheed should be able to lessen some of that burden by being such a versatile NBA scorer who can operate successfully in end-of-shot-clock situations.

The king lynchpin in this dysfunctional pairing continues to be one-dimensional chucker Eddie House...just imagine how much better everybody'd perform on down the line if we had somebody as unimportant as Anthony Johnson in Eddie's role? The full potential of the 2nd unit is being held hostage by this guy...

agree with Eddie stinking up the gym until major garbage time...I wonder if Tony's got any legs left at all? Hopefully he's practiced shooting as his drives have netted charges about 50% of the time lately.

That said, I'm excited as hell to see him back Go Tony. Get Well Marquis.

Anyone interested in brining Ricky Davis back?

Will be interesting to see how he's incorporated in the offense.

TA does bring a slashing make something happen mentatlity to the offense. It's not pretty but it can be effective. OTOH I have noticed when he is hurt he plays a bit skittish. So we have to see which TA we get out there.

I like to see him play WITH MD though. MD has a very high BBIQ and can free TA from too much ball handling..

there's been something missing with marquis lately so maybe this explains it. he's been awfully passive on the offensive end. we really need him to drive the ball and score in the lane or on post ups. Giddens might bet some pt out of this as well

Last year at this time TA was playing better than Daniels has for us. TA is just injury prone and can't be relied on. I mentioned a few days ago that Daniels was stuggling because he was injured. He hasn't felt right for about 3 weeks. I hope some rest will help him.

If TA can't go, I think Walker should be called up. Giddens is not mentally ready to play in the NBA.

Sooo....with Daniels out, is there a single guy on the roster who can legitimately play backup 3? Ray is the closest I can think of.

Walker is not much better, imo. They both played well in the dleague, but neither did well when they got a chance with the Celtics.

Walker hasn't really distinguished himself from the standard AAA crowd at any point. Lost in the always improving young player hype.. is the harsh reality that there is a rather broad group of very good basketball players who are good enough to contribute to NBA teams but not good enough to demand minutes.

I still have hopes that Walker and Hudson can seperate themselves from this large crowd that includes easily forgotten guys like Brandon Wallace, Brandon Hunter, and Orien Greene as well busts like Kedrick Brown, Gerald Green and Marcus Banks. These guys end up as practically disposable roster fillers - with new young guys taking the spot of older young guys when the contract runs out..

Some manage to play just well enough to get on the coaches "good side" despite constantly frustrating fans.. Guys like Brian Scalabrine come to mind a AAA player who gets minutes like a legit NBA guy.

Scalabrine is helped by the fact that his skills are still rare in the NBA although getting less so. How many 6-10 guys can shoot the 3, dribble penetrate and dish, and defend the post and the perimeter? Scalabrine is frustrating because he doesn't do any of these very well but he does them all and that is what makes him stick - that and a big contract.

There are a 100 guys that don't make the NBA that can do what Banks, Green, Brown, Giddens etc. can do.

Walker on the other hand may have a chance. He is a PF in a small forward body. If he ever learns to defend guys like Lebron and Melo he has a chance. I predict that even if he gets cut from Celtics someone else will take a chance on him. Even if he never quite makes it he will probably stick around like Marcus Banks just because of his size, speed and hops.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."
