New found respect for Bird

Post#1 » by Rocketsftw » Wed Dec 16, 2009 2:11 pm

After watching this video I have realized Dirk wishes he could do the things that Bird did.

Dirk is the closest thing to Bird, and he is still miles behind. Bird had the passing, court vision, hussle, the ball handling, a left hand and heart that Dirk doesn't. The scoring and rebouding are about equal.

Dirk is a great player, but no Larry Bird.

How about his 60 point game against the Hawks? He's going beserk out there, and the dudes on the benches were laughing, cheering and high fiving each other like crazy.

That's right, BOTH benches. Doc was even interviewed about that not that long ago.

That is how awesome Bird was.

Yeah Bird really was a guy that makes you say WoW.. Thats the thing - his passes were out of nowhere. About the only guy that does that today is Nash. Bird isn't really that much like Dirk. He is more like a 6'9" Nash. I think too like Nash his athleticism probably was a touch underated because he was sometimes matchup with such good leapers. He wasn't one of those feet nailed to the floor kind of non-athletes. He could move out there..a bit like an older Pierce athlete wise. Its a shame the guy didn't get to play longer..
