Dumbest thing I've ever said...yet the smartest

Post#1 » by ddb » Wed Jan 13, 2010 3:35 am

But I feel the need to say it...First of all I broke the Garnett news. It was the 2nd happiest day of my Celtics fan career. My Happiest day was obviously beating LA at home for the title. So I LOVE GARNETT. He's my favorite player. But this is a business and I found a way to keep us in title contention for years to come.

Garnett, Scal, T. Allen to Houston for McGrady. Make a run with Perk, Sheed, Pierce, Ray, Rondo, Baby, House, Daniels, McGrady, S Williams THIS YEAR. We can compete in the east with that team.

Let McGrady and Ray Allen Walk and then we can make a run at Lebron OR Wade/Bosh OR J. Johnson/Bosh

I just have a bad feeling about Garnett making it through the next three years. But when he's on the court there he's still one of the most influencial players in the league. Houston might bite at this deal, especially with a chunk of change coming off the books with Scal and TA.

The Celtics could be the darkhourse in the Lebron hunt. He loves the history of the game and what better franchise then the c's. PLUS, we'll still have Pierce, Sheed, Perk and an emerging star in Rajon Rondo. Name me another team that could have that talent and that cap space available?

Perkins, Sheed, Lebron, Pierce, Rondo. SEE YOU LATER NBA.
And for the few of you who are going to say..."Rondo, Lebron, and Pierce all need the ball- it will never work"

Okay then.....trade Rondo. His value is skyhigh. You could get an amzing package in return. Just sayin

While I'm not adverse to dealing KG down the road, this is not the avenue to pursue.

Perk and Bosh would be a great front court going forward.

Why in the world would Houston want KG? Offering him in any trade automatically raises the red flag about his knee, and let's face it - half the league probably thinks that already. Any McGrady trade to Boston would have to involve Rondo IMO, and we all know Ainge isn't doing that.

Props for breaking the KG story though. That day was so surreal, especially when kingsley chimed in and validated the rumor.

I guess you don't know that the scenario above still doesn't allow enough cap to take LeBron, right?

If KG is good to go for the rest of the season after he gets over this current injury then that trade makes us worse. A lot worse. And Danny would never do it. If his knee is gone for this season and possibly beyond, Houston never makes that trade, why would they? Why would anyone make that trade?

They can get something a lot better than another player to sit in a suit on the end of their bench with McGrady's massive expiring contract. Morey is a smart guy, he will use that contract well or just let it expire I think.

Even if we had the cap space, there is no way in a million years LeBron signs here. Absolutely no way. He will stay in Cleveland or he goes to Chicago, New York, New Jersey/Brooklyn or LA.

Is there a page that has all our salery info on it? The Trade checker doesn't use the real numbers. Anyways I find it hard to believe that losing KG and Ray puts us a max contract under the cap. IDK if you were suggesting we could get wade AND bosh but I know there is no way it is possible.

The idea of trading KG might at some point have some merit to it. I think the earliest point we could think about it is this summer. This season there is no point in trading him unless he is done for the season, in which case who would want him?

Trading KG would create a backlash though. Take Sheed for example. He signed here on the cheap to play with KG, if KG goes does Sheed stay a good citizen? What if we start losing more games?

The only way I could see getting behind a KG trade is if it brought in a young potential star. Maybe KG for Jefferson? I think I'd be worried about Jefferson as much as I worry about KG. Amare? Idk who we could realistically get that would make sense. I do think you have a point that trading KG before he really falls off in talent makes some sense.

It really comes down to how the owners feel about spending. KG probably will be a help to us as long as he wants to play. If money was not an option, our best bet is probably to just keep everyone and add a MLE each year.

Cap will probably be around 53 million. We would have to trade KG for expiring contracts, renounce Ray and Paul would have to opt out and resign for about 10 million, so we could sign a max FA. In other words, it won`t happen and the idea itself is ridiculous...

This is the best salary website I have found based on info and ease of use. Sham's content is pretty reliable but I lazy with the page flipping.

http://www.storytellerscontracts.com/

The cap is going to bottom out. Revenues are going to be way down not just because of the economy but the product. NJ wasn't a huge draw but they are in a huge market and with average attendance generate significant revenue, now there is like 10 people at the games and not sponsors because they are leaving town. They are so far under the cap and want to leave town so essentially the less revenue they generate right now is only helping their plan. Combine that with the Knicks not even trying and the largest market in the country is out.

The Cap is inflated to an extent by the Lakers new TV deal and the ESPN deal coming at the same time and front loaded, added to the return of Boston and some of the outposts like CLE, GS, ATL coming to life drove the cap from 53 mil to 58 mil. But now with ad money down no big TV money coming in and even good teams like ATL not drawing added to other teams essentially tanking the season or not drawing at all in economically depressed areas revenue is going to be way down. Stern has almost no reason to cushion the blow, he only has one team, the Lakers, that is comfortable spending way over the tax long term right now and their contracts are signed. All the other big spenders have calmed down so there isn't going to be a competitive issue and he has a good percentage of the teams under the cap even at 50 mil and CBA about to expire.

I'm pretty sure that even if we moved KG and let everyone walk, with the contracts of Pierce, Rondo, Sheed, and Perk, we won't have the cap space to sign Lebron. It'd take Pierce opting out and really, an aging team with only Pierce and Sheed as the major stars and with Rondo as the best piece down the road is not appealing to Lebron. Regardless, we aren't going to take a hit this year to get a chance at Lebron over the summer. I don't like our chances without KG this year and I don't want to risk the next few years for a chance.

Houston has no reason to deal for KG.. If there's a blockbuster deal, it's Boston & Detroit.
