Re: Should we think about trading Paul Pierce?
I don't think the Celtics would even consider trading him unless they were offered someone like LeBron straight up. Obviously no one would offer much for Pierce anyway - he just doesn't have as much value as we Celtics fans like to think he has.

What if the Clippers offered Blake Griffin, Camby (expiring) and cap change?
Davis and Pierce are close, Pierce is from L.A., and Davis/Gordon/Pierce/MLE-signing/Kaman is a good team.

I've said this before and got insulted by another team's fan for it and still stand by it: I would not trade Paul for Lebron. Loyalty means too much for me and Paul's done too much for this team over the years.
Loyalty and the fact he is still amongst the elite of the elite.
He will give us maybe 3 more years of All Pro/All Star play - then gracefully lose a little bit year by year for a couple more years after that - then retire as a Celtic legend right behind Russ and Bird in stature....and hopefully lead us to 1, maybe 2? more banners, I hope, I hope, I hope.
He gets very close to passing Bird in April 2011, and if he stays healthy, he has an outside chance to pass Hondo (who played for a hundred years) as the leading scorer in Celtic history.
I betcha that he becomes a Jo Jo/Tommy H kind of retired Celtic - involved with the organization in some way all of the time.

Way to keep your cool Ex, I figured you would spend 5,000 words on this.
Thanks. I am cool. It is too absurd a concept to even conjure.
And I am way too busy to write 5000 words right now.

Bump...
We'd be blown out tonight in our own building if it wasn't for Paul.
We're not trading paul.

Red2 wrote:we can think about it but it's not time to do anything about it. There are only a handful of good small forwards in the league and Pierce is one of them. Sure he's had some rough games lately but when he's healthy he probably number 3 behind LeBron and Kobe. You can make a case for Joe JOhnson and Deng sure looked like an all star the other night but [b]who else is there?
Kobe isn't a small forward, neither is Carter, or Iguodala- so if your talking about wings in general then Wade should have been mentioned as a guy who is better than Pierce. Anthony too- and yes, his defense has improved to the point that he is certainly better than Pierce now. Roy has a case as well. Durant's getting there. But maybe you were just listing some guys who you thought we could trade for? (not that I get the Lebron mention then...)
But anyways, Pierce is still a top wing player- he's getting older which is why some of the young guys are knocking on his door (Durant, Roy) but he's still a top player and I can't really think of a feasible situation in which I would want to trade one of the greatest Celtics of all time- not because of sentimentality, but because I don't think there's any plauble situation in which we improve by trading Pierce.
I dare Danny to prove me wrong though.
Damn

The trade Paul scenario comes out of a team going nowhere fast - who then look to give their star a chance to win. That's about as far as you can get from our current situation. The C's are a team on the cusp looking to put it altogether and make a run at a championship..
Back when Danny wanted to trade Paul Pierce for Chris Paul that's when we would have traded him. The c's were stuck and CP3 was seen as a way out. In hindsight though i am kinda glad we didn't make that trade. CP3 is too much of a ball hog for my taste.

You dont think about something until you want to do it.
So no.
But, depending on the playoffs and how things shake out...
maybe...
but still I dont think its worth trading him..we'd never get value for him.
I agreed with the Pierce for Paul deal..but you think we'd get that value now?
General question..
Because there is no way we would.

Re: Should we think about trading Paul Pierce?
I'd like to see the team getting back to the style of play that made fans not want to trade the team's best players. Hopefully, they'll get away from the isolation basketball and get a better defensive performance when KG gets back on the floor. When has trading the team's best player worked for them? It didn't work for Philly, and they did it twice.

Why trade Paul now when we're trying to win it all this year. The point is to win a championship. Not to always rebuild. You only look into the future when the present is caca.

It is possible that we can still win if we can get the right young player. It all depends on who is available though. I wouldn't want to trade him just for the sake of trading him.

True, but Miami's not trading us D-Wade, so we can get younger and while maintaining quality. You either trade a guy who's better but older or a guy who's younger, but not as good. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it's realistic to think we can trade for a guy who's younger and just as good.
