FrnCourt
When healthy, PF Kevin Garnett (15.0 ppg, 7.6 rpg), SF Paul Pierce (18.7 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and C Kendrick Perkins (12.3 pg, 8.2 rpg) can go toe-to-toe with any up front trio in the league. But they haven't been healthy together all season.
B-
BckCourt
PG Rajon Rondo (14 ppg, 9.6 apg, 4.1 rpg) is under-apreciated by All-Star voters, but not his teammates. SG Ray Allen (16.1 ppg) is the oldest of the Big Three, but the most durable, starting every game.
B+
Defense
Though the Celtics defense ranks 3rd in the league, it has failed them of late as they've blown leads that led to three consecutive losses at home. It's the area where Garnett's return will help the most when he's back on the court.
B
Bench
PF Rasheed Wallace (10.4 ppg) was supposed to be a solid scoring option, but is shooting a career low (40.8 FG pct) and takes far too many 3s. F Glen Davis and G Marquis Daniels have been injured, making the Celtics thin.
C-
Coaching
Doc Rivers has been through the wars and seen enough not to panic just because his team under-performs due to injuries in the first half of the season. He's still got them in the No. 2 spot in the East and ready to make a run.
A
overall :b
MY TAKE: I'M OK WITH EVERY ONE EXCEPT THE COACHING ONE. AN A COME ON THAT'S WAY TO HIGH, GIMME SOME THOUGHTS.

Re: mid season grades str8 from the nba
Terrible imo. Third place in defense gets us a B? The one thing we get an A in is coaching? The analysis is terrible, actually, that is no analysis. Just a terrible article.

Frontcourt A
Backcourt A
Bench C
Defense A
Coaching A
The Celtics defense is what carried them, although, as we found out last year, opposing
team's score 10 more points per game when Kevin Garnett does not play.
But it's the great defense that merits A's for the front court and backcourt,
and overall.
The bench is thin with the injuries, and thus setbacks; to Glen Davis, Marquis Daniels
and to a lesser extent KG and Paul Pierce.
Doc is brilliant; and the overall coach staff is outstanding.
Although getting healthy, and then getting in stride, would help a lot;
I think it's still up to Danny to find a backup SF that can shoot
and a backup PG that can protect the ball and shoot.
The roster spots to give away to get those guys obviously come from
the 4 backup wings (Tony, Marquis, Giddens, Walker).
Pick two to keep, trade one for the SF that can shoot,
trade the other for the PG that can shoot and dribble;
add in Scalabrine and Williams if necessary,
and of course throw in some picks or cash to make this stuff happen.
Then Doc Rivers will actually have some options,
the Celtics will crush their opposition;
and everyone will finally realize that Doc Rivers is a genius.

Re: mid season grades str8 from the nba
Seems to be completely based on statistics_. I think the author didn't watch any Celtics games yet this season.
Frontcourt A-
Backcourt B+
Bench C- (Seems kind of unfair since our main bench scorer has been starting half the season and our second main bench player has been hurt almost all season)
Defense A- (For the most part good but we get tired and kind of lazy on D late in games and even right after halftime)
Coaching A- (I don't like Doc's rotation at all but he's done a decent job keeping us afloat)

Frontcourt B+ * when healthy*
Backcourt B+
Bench C-
Defense B+ A- with KG. Still not consistent. Hasn't been all year.

Re: mid season grades str8 from the nba
As far Doc goes there is only so much he can do, the roster is on Ainge that is were I am getting concerned. The biggest question at this point is whether or not he is under utilizing Williams, Scalabrine, or Walker who themselves have been somewhat ineffective.
Perk has been great, Pierce solid but that doesn't make up for KG, who has not been KG. The rebounding has been too poor to put the front court on the honor roll.
Backcourt has been better than expected at least for me. I think Rondo has come into his own offensively the passed two months even though the FT's still suck they are getting better. Ray hasn't been the sniper of passed but has kept up his production and has shot the ball well in the second half the last two years. I think his durability has been big especially with other injury problems we are just much better with him on the floor.
Bench is always been a problem for this team, I don't understand how a team built by Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge can have guards who are so ineffective offensively. Maybe this will be the year for TA but he is as turnover prone and his inability to shoot the ball combined negates his defensive impact even though he is one of our few athletes. House is who he is and if he is your primary bench scorer you have problems. Sheed has struggled offensively coming in off the bench, Davis and Daniels are hurt and overall I would guess our bench is struggling to shoot over 42%.
