Ainge - Everything to win now
“Let me just put it this way: We’re doing everything we can to win a championship now,” Ainge said. “We’re not going to do anything that might hurt our chances of winning.

Reading between the lines, this tells me Ray Allen is going nowhere. This also indicates to me that the Celtics are willing to package the young (Giddens, Wallker) and expirings (House,Scal,TA) plus draft picks to get a signficant piece (Hinrich, Maggette, Butler etc.).
This also says to me that the Celtics would resign Ray Allen at their price (Mid Level ?) or let him walk next year. That's why they would be willing to take on salary for next year in a trade at the deadline.
This is what i am expecting. Makes sense.
THE FUTURE IS NOW !!!!!!!!!

Re: Ainge - Everything to win now
I take this as him being very vague. He could have just come out and said Ray Allen is not going anywhere, but he didn't. This quote certainly allows for the possibility for Ray Allen being traded for a younger player that can help win now and in the future.
I think your agenda is that you don't want to see Ray Allen traded thus why from that quote you get him trading expiring contracts (Scal), young players (Gidden's Hurt and Bill Walker perennially hurt) and picks (not many left) for another piece.
Certainly, I appreciate your optimism here, but you just got from that that quote what your mind wanted you to get from it. That was a very vague quote by Danny.

Nothing to do with my agenda, the quote
"We’re not going to do anything that might hurt our chances of winning".
Tells me the the Celtics are going to have the same starting 5 for the rest of the season. You may interpret that to mean something different.

Danny Ainge is a liar and a good one at that. If a deal comes up for Ray then Ray is gone...

Ainge is doing what he always does in this situation, no one is untouchable. Ainge is putting feelers out for Ray Allen and if he gets what he wants then he will pull the trigger on a trade. He is probably asking for a lot. I still say the chances of Ray Allen getting traded by Feb 18 is about 5%.
It's more likely Glen Davis and expirings will get moved IMO.

Re: Ainge - Everything to win now
Well, in majority of deals Ray would be bought out and came back...other teams motivation for trading for Allen is his expiring deal, so a buy-out and saving some more money makes sense...

When you listen to Ainge, you have to listen to what he doesn't say.

If Ray Allen is on this team past the trade deadline it will not be due to the lack of Danny Ainge not trying to trade him. It will be due to the fact that Danny didn't get the deal he wanted. Ainge is shopping Ray allen around and what he is looking for is a player that can help this team win NOW and also in the Future. They guy I think number 1 on Danny wish list is Monte Ellis, question is would Danny be allowed to take back the contract of Corry Maggett or someone like that.

Re: Ainge - Everything to win now
Agreed.
I know what the quote says, but how you got it meaning that he was going to trade anyone outside the top 6 for something else is beyond me. That quote just isn't clear at all its very vague. I am just going to sit and watch until its time to play ball.
I'm not going to post trade ideas or anything, just lets things fall the way they do.

all I'm saying is this don't look for any EC team to help out the Cs in any trade. so you have to look out west and the team that makes the most sense is Golden State. I think we can get both Monte and Cory, depending on the Gilbert situation I hear he wants to go back to Golden State. So they G-State can free up a lot of money by taking Ray and Scal off our hands and we will have a new back-court of the future with Rondo and Ellis.

Pure Speculation. You have no idea what Ainge is doing like the rest of us. All you can do is speculate like the rest of us. Ainge might not be shopping Ray Allen at all. No one knows except Ainge.

Re: Ainge - Everything to win now
He wouldn't be doing his job as GM if he wasn't actively looking at what one of the biggest trade commodities can bring in a rather large trade market. History also shows that Danny Ainge tends to be very vague when discussing team moves. In fact, haven't come across a lot of GM's that say "Yes, we are actively looking to trade on of our star players in order to get younger and secure our future." Or in any other variation of that.
You say speculation I say assumed.

Re: Ainge - Everything to win now
This means to me that Ray won't be dealt if it doesn't improve our team NOW. That means trading Ray to try and get a young player or free up more cap flexibility isn't an issue. Ray isn't a an empty contract.
This would mean to me just what it says. Danny will do whatever he has to do to win this year -- at the expense of the future (draft picks, bringing on longer contracts etc.). With the age of the team, as long as we are an elite team we have to go for the brass ring at all costs. Blow it out, worry about rebuilding when we are done.

Re: Ainge - Everything to win now
if Pierce's foot really is broken and he's done for the year we REALLY have to look into trading Ray and getting something of value in return. Obviously this season would be shot, so there's no point in keeping Ray for a possible title run.
