So, why did Rondo change his FT routine again?

Post#1 » by BillessuR6 » Tue Feb 2, 2010 8:46 am

I really don`t get this guy. He seemed to have a nice routine going, the % was going up and then all of a sudden he stops doing it. The new shooting form looked extremely promising IMO and I actually felt comfortable when he went to the line...three bounces of the ball, correction to the right to get his elbow in and shot. Now, he just steps to the line and chucks his shot up...

After that clippers game when he missed 2 at the end he went 21-26 (80 %) from the line. In the next 3 games he was 5-11...after that he changed the routine in the game against DAL and has been shooting 14-23 (61 %) since...

Why he changed it is a mystery to me. Anybody heard, read something about it?

I've also noticed his mechanics are again changed. If my memory serves me right, guys typically need an offseason to revamp their shot and build a consistency with their new shot.

Hack-a-Rondo? It happened last night. For a second I was thinking "what are they doing?" Then I caught myself thinking, "its not a bad strategy."

I'm not to concerned yet with Rondo's shooting. He seems like a winner, like a player who will work on his weak spots and improve them. Give him as many pressure situations now. I've heard about writing that the first million words you write are **** but you have to write them to get to the good ones. Maybe its like that with some NBA players, they have to take a ton of ugly shots before they can start taking nice ones.

Rondo is like Dwight Evans. Dewey used to constantly fiddle with his batting stance for the first two thirds of his career. Rondo is constantly trying out diferent free throw routines.

Personally, I think he is close to the mark with this one. He just needs to focus on finishing on the balls of his feet and toes.. He gets flat foouted up there. I'd be willing to bet that he hits them without much of a problem in practice, and this routine looks like what a guy would do when taking hundreds of them in practice. Set the feet, bounce the ball, bend the knees, and go right into the shot. It is certainly an upgrade over the last one.

Noticed it too. He had a good routine going at the beginning of the season, but is back to rushing his free throws.

Yep. When they intentionally fouled him last night my brother was laughing and bet me he would miss one and he did. He totally sped up his FT. He did a 3 slow 3 dribble deep breath thing for a while and shot much much better. It makes no sense. Maybe he doesn't like results :-?

Hes actually been better as the seasons gone on. At least results wise. He was terrible in November and for awhile was around 52%. Hes almost back up to 60%..

There are too many body parts moving when he shoots free-throws. I just don't think he has ever gotten comfortable shooting the ball without leaving his feet. I think he over-bends his knees and then he sort of "unwinds" with his whole body. It's so hard to explain what I'm seeing. He needs to eliminate some of that unnecessary movement. It should be a little bit of knees and a little more wrist that propels the shot to the rim.

I think he lost his patience with his routine...he is that kind of player who likes to rush and is probably bored that shooting one free throw takes him 5-10 seconds :D
