Depends if we can trade for a proper backup at SG or SF, which I dont think TA is. He is a good 3rd stringer.

However, he's definitely not a deal breaker in any big deal (generally any one involving Ray, but deals where we're using only him as an expiring, I'd rather give up House).

How are these guys similar besides both playing a 2/3 guard? They're both black? Yeah I guess but why would you even think that, its 2010 for pete's sake.

They're both slashers with limited range who can create off the dribble and defend the perimeter well. TA's the better athlete; Daniels the steadier ball handler/decision maker.

This, I would definitely call that fairly similar. They definitely aren't identical, but they're both good defenders, both have solid handles, both are injury prone, neither have much of an outside shot. Athleticism and height are all that really separates the two imo.

You think Tony has "solid handles?"

He's an idiot with the ball a lot of times, but he definitely has some point skills.

You're crazy if you don't think Tony has solid handles. Any player who can average 20 PPG over a string of 10 games almost all on free throws as a product of slashing to the hoop HAS solid handles. You can't argue that no matter how little you like watching him dribble.

Tony is a very aggressive player who gets nearly all of his offense off of the bounce. He's not a superb dribbler a la Lebron or Rondo driving to the basket but he's certainly "solid". The issue is more that being only a solid or good dribbler, who's more or less one-dimensional, defenses can play him for the drive and that causes turnovers. Outside of that the dribbling off the foot or losing the ball is mostly caused to the amount of speed and aggressiveness Tony displays, always getting out in transition or attacking off the dribble from the wing.

chak there isn't a 6'3" guy in the entire league who can effectively guard a 6'10" shooter on the perimeter. Tony can cover the 1, 2 and most average size 3's as well as anybody on the roster. If you're dogging his D because he can't cover guys 6 inches taller than him, I guess you got me there. But I wouldn't be putting him in that situation any more than I'd ask Paul Pierce to cover Dirk Nowitzki.

That's my point, Tony can guard average sized 3s ok, but his height puts him at a big disadvantage against guys who are reasonably big, like Kobe, LeBron, Tayshawn Prince, and he has no chance at all if Peja, Rashard Lewis, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith are playing the 3. There are too many guys like that out there for TA to ever be very useful as a 3.

Those situations will be out there, and we'll be at a loss if when we face big 3s if we've been relying on Tony as our 2/3 backup.

He's a 1/2 who can't dribble or shoot, and a defensive stopper who is too small to guard a lot of 3s. That makes his niche really limited, and that's why he should never be more than a situational 10th guy. Daniels is twice as valuable on his worst day, even if he's not as athletic or as good a defender, because he's taller, smarter, and a much better shooter (but still below average at least, long range.)
