Something is going down this off season for sure.

Jamal Crawford declined his player option. We sure could use a vet like him on the second unit

In addition, he had a plus-5 net rating this season. He brings much more than just grit.

I feel like most of what you describe here falls under grit. I honestly hope we never see him take 10+ shots a game for the Celtics. And it’s proven at this point if he’s out there he’s getting his shots.

Passing, floor vision, elite defense, a post game and an incredibly positive overall impact on the team's performance falls under "grit?" He is a gritty player with skill; there is a difference between that and a player who is solely "gritty." A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle isn't a square.

Hitching my wagon right behind this guy. Elite defense at MULTIPLE positions is a SKILL. And it's not one you just get to disregard because he shot 30% from 3. It's easy to get caught up in the counting stats that are flashy but he's also maybe the most intuive passer on the roster. In a PnR league, he's excellent in the PnR. With Kyrie out, Marcus was on the way to leading the team in assists during the regular season when his own injury derailed him. He makes plays despite his shooting inefficiencies. Against Cleveland, as the series wore on we continually had to sub out Rozier because of the 1-4 PnR mismatch that would leave Terry stuck on Jeff Green or Lebron whereas Smart was bigger and stronger and they could exploit that matchup less often with him on the floor. And bottomline, in the playoffs against the best teams, I just value Marcus' innate ability to see the play on defense before it happens and be the first to rotate over for the charge, the block or the steal. And here's one last important thing as it regards to paying him:

Currently our contracts right now or mostly max deals and mostly rookie salary. We have no mid-level salaries on the team that we can use to match up for trades later. We have nothing in the 10-15 million range as a trading slot. Marcus isn't gonna get much on the open market I don't think just because most teams don't have much money, backup PG is a HUGE depth spot in the league right now, and most teams I think know we will match anything reasonable so I don't think he's going to get a lot of offers. I'd match as high as 3/39 and then that last year he becomes a tradeable asset if needed.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Or Larkin?

Let's stop with the Kyrie stuff. He isn't the type of player the Celtics would be looking to replace with a late first-round draft pick or guys from Europe.

no one expects set-backs or thinks practical about these players conditioning.. they're not in "nba shape" and they're not fully recovered

Yeah, but it's June.
They have 4 more months, to fully recover.
