Nelly presumably brings others 60 combinations to 6 as well, I doubt there was any perfect storm with 7.

BTW - Don Chaney is the answer to the player who played with both Bill Russell and Larry Bird question, not the coaches question.

Stragglers: Sichting (a long time assistant though, could his time eventually come?), Parish, Thirdkill, Walton, Kite, Wedman

You got the first example I thought of. The key is recalling that DJ had a brief stint.

I have another list very close to that one.

As noted above, I also have a list from the Russell era.

I couldn't find any lists of 6 including Nelson, because I don't think he played with any of Heinsohn, Sharman or Cooz. But perhaps I'm missing somebody.

After answering the coach of the year question with Chaney, I wanted to know just when he did play with the Cs, and what do you know...in separate stints, he became the only player to call each of the two greatest Celtics his teammate.

New question, which might be regarded as a hint to a previous question:

Which Celtics head coaches previously played for the team?

And in honor of the weekend just passed:

Which Celtics ever won an All-Star weekend competition, other than a basketball game? (I.e. dunk contest, 3-pt shootout, skills challenge, whatever?)

Dee Brown - Dunk Contest
Larry Bird - 3 Point Contest (possibly twice?)
Paul Pierce - 3 Point Contest

And I can't remember if Gerald Green won the dunk contest before or after the Garnett trade.

It was the year before the trade. Gerald winning was literally one of the only high points of the season. That and Al Jefferson's breakout.

Russell (player-coach), Heinsohn, Sanders ?, Cowens (player-coach), K.C. Jones, Ford, Carr -- that's all I can think of.

Hay, guys.
My name is Davor. I'm from Croatia, land of hopefully next Celtic great Mario Hezonja.
Celtics fan from 1986., activ on celticsblog...here i was just reading...
I'm former journalist in croatia basketball magazine and basketball historyan...
I saw that a lot of you guys think that the most future NBA head coaches on same Celtics team was 6.
Its wrong. The correct answer is 7.
1984/85 Celtics: Danny Ainge, Larry Bird, Quinn Bucknerr, Rick Carlisle, ML Carr, Dennis Johnson and Kevin McHale
Numerous Celtics team had a 6 head coaches. But two more had a 6,5 :)
1960/61 Celtics: Bob Cousy, Tom Heinsohn, KC Jones, Bill Russell, Tom Sanders, Bill Sharman + Frank Ramsey (ABA coach, finals in 1971.)
1961/62 Celtics:- replace retired Bill Sharman with Carl Braun...so these two teams had a 6 NBA and a ABA head coach.
Hello to all Celtics fans around the World.
There's only one statistics that's important: who won...Bill Russell

Frank Ramsey....in the late 50's and early 60s

You sir are of course correct. I think it might have been last season Tommy and Mike did an in-game interview with Ramsey.

Hondo was the next great sixth man. Not sure if there was anyone filling the role in between though...

Here's another one for some of the 'Old timers" in the audience...

Most of us know that Danny Ainge played third base for the Blue Jays for a short time in addition to being the shooting guard for the Celtics...

But Ainge was not the first Celtic player to play two professional sports....

Who was the first Celtic player to do so....and part two of the question...who was the second Celtic player to do this?

Gene Conley was 3-time champion with C's and World Series winner with Braves i believe-
Second one i dont know. Bill Sharman was in Dodgers camp and John Havlicek was in Browns camp but neither played in MLB or NFL

You have correctly answered part two of the question....

Gene Conley was a part of the 1959- 1962 Celtic championship teams...He was the backup center and power forward..

Conley was also an All Star major league pitcher who was the winning pitcher in a 1957 All Star game. Conley had a .382 ERA for his career...His Milwaukee Braves National League team won the 1957 World Series after moving from Boston...

Part one of the question is a little tougher....but a hint....This player was also an actor....and a TV star to boot....

in addition, he was also the first player to break a backboard in an NBA game....

A...baseball...i didn't know that.
So can i have one question?
In all of NBA History...with players who scored 18K points...only 3 scored at least 20 points in his last 3 games of career (regular season).
One is Julius Erving. The other two did it in Celtics uniform. Who are they?

I assume one is Bird. Just gonna guess the other is Havlicek?

You are good at this.....Chuck played first base for the Dodgers briefly in 1949....and had another cup of coffee with the Cubs a couple a years later....

And he broke the first NBA backboard with of all things...a set shot...

The backboard had been installed incorrectly and it shattered... :D

Chuck was part of the first Celtic team in 1946...

I only know this because I had to look him up because I got him confused with Conley recently on this board....

I thought Gene was "The Rifleman" ....

Conners played before I was born....But I do remember Conley backing up Russ...I was about ten at the time...

Bet allot of today's NBA talent could play elsewhere...surprising that they don't?

Bet you will have one doozy of a question....So what is it?

To truth18.

John Havlicek is one of the two. Larry Legend isn't. I'm still waiting to another C's player who scored 20+ points in 3 last games of his career...

Sounds about right?

Though I think Havelcek was injured....and that might have hindered him?

Another good guess would be Heinson or Bill Sharmon perhaps?

Terrific thread!
