Re: Celtics to pursue Harrison Barnes in Free Agency
Harrison Barnes had a chance to step up tonight with Green out. Chance to clinch the title and make some money in free agency by having a grat game.......and he's been invisible.....and some of you want to pay this guy? Lol

Max Barnes. Draymond Green played better than him tonight.

Barnes wasn't invisible. I see him missing shots everywhere. I like him, but he's been terrible today.

Nice to see Harrison Barnes step up with Draymond out.
2-14 shooting, 5 points. The guy has max contract written all over him.
I also never wanted Kevin Love and his empty stats and no defense.

Yep, neither one is close to worth max. I'd still take Barnes over Love though. But, neither is happening for a price I'd like...

Let it sink in that you could be forced to pay this bum $23-25 mil/yr if you strike out on Horlford and Durant.

Re: Celtics to pursue Harrison Barnes in Free Agency
The Celtics giving Barnes the max or close to the max would be insane and just a horrible risk. Crazy for a Celtics team to do that.
That being said, I would never judge a player by a single game too much for the sin of just missing open shots. But Barnes has played enough to show that giving him the max after this year is an extremely bad bet unless the salary cap was literally going to double to 180+ million after the 2016-17 season.

It will take mucho money to get Barnes out of Cali. He could help this team though.

I didn't realize there was a rule that you're required to sign a max guy just because you have the cap space to do so.
The worst case scenario for us is that we add a #3 pick plus a couple of first roudners plus some draft stashes to a team that won 48 games, keeping all our salary flexibility for next year by re-upping Amir and JJ. And we have a great pick coming next year too, again with cap space for 2 max guys.
That's the worst case.
We are in no hurry to make bad moves. Ainge has said exactly this.

I want Barnes even less than I want Love. Can't believe he's probably going to get a max contract.

I'd rather max Matt Barnes.

Re: Celtics to pursue Harrison Barnes in Free Agency
Barnes would be good. He had a bad shooting game. So what? It happens. I am for signing him to a decent deal that doesn't kill cap space. Now, we aint getting him for 4 years $36 million. But with way the cap works, 4 years $60 million maybe?

Last night was a prime example of why I don't want this guy.

Harrison Barnes wouldn't even start on this team. Crowder and Bradley are better than him. Do we really want to bring him in and pay him twice as much as those guys? Think about what that would do to their morale - Bradley's already ticked that his agent got him to sign a terrible deal. Imagine if we start giving away some of his minutes to Barnes in order to justify his contract.

Barnes has all the mental fortitude of Jeff Green. Hard pass. Let somebody else be massively disappointed by maxing this guy.

"Among players who played at least 500 minutes this season, Barnes had the 114th best Win Shares Per 48 Minutes, right above Eric Bledsoe and right below Solomon Hill."
Yes, Eric Bledsoe. He's this year's Joe Johnson (and he's not even that good)
