I absolutely loved it. I’ve never seen a film have an impact on my daughter the way that it did. I imagine it’s going to be a very powerful and emotional movie for a lot of women around the world.

I haven’t put anything here for a while. Here’s some things:

The Umbrella Academy was great TV.

The Hole In the Ground was a great horror gem. Loved it.

Alita is getting nowhere near the attention that it deserves.

After Life on Netflix with Ricky Gervais is a darkly hysterical binge friendly show about loss.

Saw it over the weekend and I enjoyed it as well. Outside of it literally taking place in the 90s, I thought it was very much a 90s throw back action movie (I had similar thoughts about Venom) in all the best ways.

I'm also a big fan of cats and I was really happy to see a cat steal the movie as well. Dogs get everything most of the time.

My parents used to have 2 cats. The first one, Mocha, was a Himalayan and had a very sweet temperament. I would wake up and she would be sitting on my chest, purring, waiting for me to wake up. She wouldn't be friendly to just anyone either. She made you work for her affection. She passed away a few years ago and I miss her dearly.

Bentley was the other cat. Grey tabby, and super unpredictable. He would randomly attack my brother whenever he came into town. Literally jump on his back and try to dig his claws into him. He also had a bad habit of being mean to small kids. After my dad passed away, he just became too much for my mom to handle. When he started hissing at my nephew when he was only 2 months old, that's when my mom decided to send him away. Thankfully, his new owner lives on a farm, so he has all the room in the world to act like a complete ass. I don't miss that guy at all. Lol

^Spoiler alert*

I watched the whole thing with my Uncle and told him about half way through that Lorne Malvo was the devil. He’s not as sold on that as I am. I’ve seen a few pieces online supporting that. What’s your take?

Season two is better. You're in for a treat. Season two is in my top three TV seasons all time.

I thought season 3 was pretty bad and I love Carrie Coon just thought the plot was stupid/boring.

And I think Lester was way more of a Satan-like chararacter. Such a POS.

My Uncle said that too. I had already told him I thought Malvo was the devil when he told Keith Carradine “ I haven’t had pie that good since the garden of eden.”

Psyched to hear you guys say that about season 2.
Hey Man, nice shot!

Haha. No doubt. Goose was awesome. And they really nailed the 90’s vibe.

I’ve been binging” Shitts Creek” on Netflix. I dint usually find sitcoms ( other than Seinfeld and curb your enthusiasm actually funny) but this one cracks me up. Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy working together again is a hoot. Levy’s son plays the don on the show as well. Him and O’Hara are the real standouts but a funny cast with short 22 minute episodes.

I saw Aquaman in the theatre in 3D. Truly an amazing spectacle. The story is nothing more special than your standard superhero story ( I’d personally put man of steel and bvs on another level story wise but I know that can upset people into a nerd war) . But Aquaman not even getting a nomination is very weird. Groundbreaking stuff.

Technically on topic, I guess - rumor Sony is going to buy Take-Two? That means Rockstar Games, NBA2K, Borderlands and a few others could turn into Playstation exclusives - kind of a big deal

Ok. I had to drive an hour to see it, but man was it worth it. Last night I went to see Climax. Foreign film about a group of dancers who go to an isolated building to dance and someone spikes sangria with LSD at their after party. If smoking is your thing, strongly recommend pairing it with this film. Insane.

There hasn't been such a badass cat on film since Clovis from SleepWalkers.

I have always hated Eric Clapton's solo music and most of his music outside of that, including most Cream songs with any vocals.

This has always included "Layla" by Derek and the Dominoes. Which I never understood as a song or a feeling (assuming most know that Clapton was in love with George Harrison's wife, and George was one of his best friends and wrote the album to her), I was always more of a "Wah-Wah" (dope song) guy and fully on George's side.

But I understand that song now due to my friend's ex wife's nonsense/increasingly growing flirtation and it's incredible. It all makes sense to me now and I've been playing it at least once a day for the past few weeks. Pray for me RealGM.

With all of that said, current mood:

ADOS probably would end with the war still raging and Jon as Azor Ahai clashing swords with the Night King if it wasn't a dream of a book. That's as Martin-esque as it gets, trust me, and I have to assume DB/DB won't do that.

I have only read Fevre Dream, of his non-ASOIAF works, and I really enjoyed it and was satisfied by the ending.

Here's a quote from a recent interview with GRRM that jives with what you and Ed Pinkney have said:

”I’m working on it, I try not to look at the big picture, ever..because then it becomes incredibly intimidating. I try to say, ‘I’ll pick it up today; I’m gonna write a couple of pages, let’s see, one page at a time, one sentence at a time, one..... word at a time, if you look at... oh god, I have thousands of pages left to write and they have to be great or everyone will be mad at me, ummm... then it becomes very intimidating”

”at one time I was having a huge pressure on myself to keep ahead of the show, and uh... I failed...when I recognized that I had lost that battle, um... (fiddles with hands, lost for words for a few seconds) I don’t know, heh heh....”

His best work after ASOIAF is a short novella called Sandkings which won a nebula. The story is epic and the ending is pretty awesome.

Right now I’m reading “The Three Body Problem” based on Obama’s recommendation and it is one of best Sci-Fi books I’ve read in a long time, excepting Seveneves by Neil Stephenson which was excellent.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I'd put some of his other short sci-fi pieces over it but Sandkings is fantastic.

I'll have to check out "The Three Body Problem". I probably owe Stephenson another shot as well (hated Snowcrash but that's all I've read by him).

In 1992, Snowcrash was ground breaking when it came out but unfortunately, the book is not a good read anymore - it’s too dated and doesn’t quite capture what the internet really became the way a knockoff like Ready Player One does.

I agree that Martin has a lot of great short fiction - I think Sandkings is a great choice for anyone who loves GOT but hasn’t read anything else by him.
