I'll set his O/U at 8 mpg in the Sixers series... He can easily match up against guys like Neto, Korkmaz, or Burks.

Re: Celtics Re-sign Brad Wanamaker to 1 yr Deal (2019)
I like Brad a lot.
He's obviously been a serviceable rotation player. Versatile, tough, doesn't screw up much, always moving, knows how to contribute without dribbling.
But beyond that, I think he's brought leadership on the court. This team is young, and the top guys can be kinda soft and fall in love with halfcourt offense. Having a grizzled vet like Wanamaker around, who pushes the pace, bordering on recklessly, seeks out physical contact under the rim, owns his space on the floor.... he gives the team something they need.
Tremont Waters might be a much better candidate to win a in an all star weekend-style skills challenge, but I haven't seen any reason to think he can even come close to Wanamaker's impact in the context of the team game.
Romeo, down the line, might be able to do it. He has the versatility as a defender/rebounder, and what he lacks in physical strength, he can make up in legit NBA finishing skill.
But he's got to fix his shot. Even if he's never a sharpshooter, right now the broken-ness of his shot has a lot of negative side effects. Opposing teams disregard him on the perimeter, which is a handicap the offense can't afford. And beyond that, the lack of comfort shooting just has him shook period. Even when sharing the court with nobodies and fringe NBA players, he wanted to hide in the corner. I find it improbable that he's going to improve both his shot and his confidence enough to be an involved rotation player in a few months. He needs time to improve the shot, and he needs to prove it to himself, and build confidence to just play his game, which realistically means time in the G league in 2020-2021.

Re: Celtics Re-sign Brad Wanamaker to 1 yr Deal (2019)
What do we think Brad gets in FA this summer? $3M range? 3yr/$10M?
I don' think it's out of the question we bring him back.
Trade Poirier/30 for a future 2nd.
Resign Hayward starting ~$27M.
Resign Brad at $3M
Sign 14 & 26.
That gets you around $5M over the lux line with one spot for a vet min. Rather than downgrade to Waters, I think you keep Brad around. If someone offers him crazy money, see ya. But anything up to say $5M maybe you keep him around. Good trade ballast if nothing else.

I love Brad Wanamaker and basically wouldn't bring him back under any circumstance unless they just straight up don't think Waters is a capable third PG. They have to sign Waters to an NBA deal or they will lose him, right? Wanamaker will probably get 3/10 to 3/15 I'd assume. Look at McConnell, Satoransky, Arcidiacono contracts from last year, though Wanamaker is a little older, he's better than all. Sato contract is a little high and he's a higher usage player I suppose, maybe a poor comp. All it takes is one team who thinks Wanamaker is a great backup PG. Look at Sixers and how nice he'd be there, plus he played college there. They have the worst guards in the playoffs. I'd give him the MLE if I were them.
You have to expect Langford, Waters, Edwards will be getting more minutes next year at the guard spots. Sure, if you make some trades, and clear out the backend, sign Wanamaker. Add in all the draft picks they have, I don't see Wanamaker coming back unless there are several trades to clear out the backend players (Waters, Edwards, draft picks, etc.)

Yeah, that range sounds about right.
I'm not super worried about losing Waters. He's a late 2nd rounder who looks great in the G league. We have RFA rights to resign him as a 2-way. If he gets a real league deal from someone else, so be it. You eventually have to pick between he & Edwards imo. You've had them both for a year+ due to covid, so make the decision. Team just can't support 3 tiny guards. Edwards has the advantage since he's signed, but you can move him if you think Waters is the better option.
Romeo & the new picks PT is more the concern. But, if they beat out Brad, great. You can always trade him if he's on that deal. If they don't, then you got Brad. If some team offers Brad the MLE, more power to him, we sign a different vet min or keep Waters.

I dunno if Waters has the goods or not, I'll leave that to the guys who are able to watch him every day. He looks great when I see him in the G League and he is the only primary distributor PG they have on the entire roster. Shot looks good, the defense will be limited of course no matter what his pedigree is. He'll only be able to guard PGs.
I would personally let Wanamaker go at the expense of locking Waters up because the upside of having a young, quality PG on a 3/4 year deal at near minimum (which is what Waters should cost) is so high. But if they think he sucks or if they think they can risk losing him to another team, I guess I'm fine with it. I would have done a lot more to retain PJ Dozier too, but they didn't seem to care and now he's getting rotation minutes in Denver for basically free.
I don't know what's wrong with retaining three tiny guards. Two would be making peanuts and if you think they can be average rotation players that's pretty huge.

I don't think we're far off here. If they think Waters is going to be a solid rotation player soon, then definitely keep him over Brad. I'm more of the line of thinking that I'm not going to let sunk cost of a late 2nd that isn't guaranteed determine my roster decisions. Discovering Brad is as much an asset not to discard as drafting Waters, imo. Of course, that depends on cost of keeping Brad.
But, esp. when we're talking contention. If letting Waters go for Wanamaker is the cost of higher quality 10-15 mpg on a contending team, see ya. If they think Waters has the goods, keep him. Just keep the better player, basically. Locking up Waters vs Wanamaker probably isn't a huge financial difference. If it is, and Waters is close enuf/better performance wise, Brad's gone.
Draft probably determines a lot of this as well. Go BPA as always. If one of the picks is a PG the team really loves, they could both be gone.
As for 3 runts, that's more personal preference. But 20% of your slots are dedicated to small guys, you lose a little flexibility and most likely one of them isn't playing much. Fine if you don't have other options in the pipeline, but ours is pretty full.

Re: Celtics Re-sign Brad Wanamaker to 1 yr Deal (2019)
I wouldn't consider the use of the second round pick on Waters at all, just that he's cheap, young, looks good. I would definitely opt for the younger, cheaper player over getting locked into Wanamaker for 3 more years, even if the younger player potentially plays worse. Just a risk you take to keep a flexible roster I think. Wanamaker isn't a huge playoff rotation piece (and neither would Waters in his place I don't think) next year if the young players take a tiny step forward and I definitely expect Grant and Romeo to take steps forward.

This draft is loaded at the pg position. I would think they would be able to find a serviceable backup with one of their late picks. So one like Mannion or Young you would think could step in right away with their skill set.

The arent getting rid of brad unless someone overpays Wannamaker. He is cheap and competent and doesn’t complain.
