Re: Poll: would you trade JB for KD?
I wouldn’t in a vacuum. Depends on other moves an roster makeup.
Durant is 33 and one can argue his best years are behind him. He is owed almost 200 million dollars for age 33,34,35,36. Maybe he is productive and injury free but more likely not. It’s a big risk to take for a team that just made it to the finals. A potential franchise killer.
Due to CBA more salary needs to go out as well. It wouldn’t just be brown.

48-52 what the hell?
Yes of course you do it.
Abdul Jabbar was 33 in 1980.
Wilt Chamberlain was 34 in 1970.
Yes that's way back but that's my point too.
Longevity is greater today especially for shooters.
7' shooters with playmaking handles that is.
Brown has exceeded expectation but is expendable.
He's replaceable. He's streaky. He's hobbled.
Christ Almighty. Get Durant and just replace Brown with 3 other 6'6 swingmen who can defend drive and shoot.

Certain regards....ie better than he was, better than i had once thought he could be and yet still not anywhere near as good as j anon says he is. You can bring up health all you want- I can too......Middleton healthy we are home a month before we ended up being and we are a 2nd round out. Speaking of health....Jaylen himself has missed plenty of time for injury as well including the post season last year.
What results are you speaking of again? do we hang banners for winning 2 games in the finals? I’m confused. We didn’t do anything lol. It was an incredible run. We had a great year and came really close. We didn’t finish the job however. We had a really good team not a great one. A team you add too and don’t tinker with unless unique opportunity presents itself- like a generational all time talent.
This isn’t a deal just for the sake of doing a deal. This isn’t just “hating” on Jaylen. I don’t blame you tho - he’s a great guy off the court, super intelligent and charismatic. Almost makes me wanna go full j anon myself at times but I catch myself.
The Celtics were statistically the best team in the league from like the end of January, to the end of the season. Or did you just forget that? I must have imagined all those games where they were dominating Playoff teams left and right. They weren't even healthy, and got 2 wins away from a title. The Celtics got closer to the championship than KD has at any point of his career outside of the GSW years lol. Yet somehow, he's a lock for a title at 34 while the team lead by guys in their 20s who played the best basketball in the league in the second half of the season aren't championship caliber. Got it. Keep chalking up the team's undeniable success with JB as the number 2 option to "J anon" **** or whatever (don't expect this to catch on btw). Just don't blame anyone but yourself when you continue to look foolish.
Jaylen has never had a catastrophic injury in his career btw. Outside of the 2021 season, played every single Playoff game of deep Playoff runs. Oh, and he's 25 years old. Not 34.
J anon has already caught on and owns real estate in your head....that’s good enough already. You’ve also brought it up like 5 times so clearly it’s struck a nerve or has registered with you.
Stats are cute- did we get a banner for being the best team in the league from January on? I missed it. Hey, what just happened in June? again you can blame everything on health for the reason we didn’t win it all but health is the reason they were actually in the finals lol.
i said we were really good not great. We weren’t. We have a really good team and an elite defense. A great defense. We were not a great team. We also struggled in close games - maybe adding KD here may help? idk lol just a thought. 2 things can also be true ; I can think we are really good as is while also thinking we would be much better with Kevin Durant.
If you add Kevin Durant to this team you have the best duo in the league hands down. It’s not just that with Kevin Durant we are a lock it’s Kevin Durant WITH Jayson Tatum w/ the rest of the group
All the numbers suggest we were a great team, my eyes suggest we were a great team. Should I ignore that and listen to MagicBagley18 because well...he says so apparently? Yeah, I'm good. We're a championship caliber team, thank you very much. And Brad agrees with me:
Hmm...tough decision here, siding with Brad or some random **** on the internet who takes pleasure in coining disparaging nicknames for supporters of our players.

Your evidence was "'just trust me bro". The statistics weren't good enough for you. The results (being two games away from a title with a hobbled team) weren't good enough for you. And you countered with...nothing. Either way, enjoy watching this non-championship caliber "good, not great" team for 82 games + Playoffs next year.

Re: Poll: would you trade JB for KD?
the Celtics are one of a handful of teams next season that can be considered contenders entering the season. The bucks healthy are imo the class of the east but then the Celtics are right there at 2. Ahead of Philly and Miami.
Maybe not by a wide margin but it’s fair to place them there right behind milwaukee as an extremely early take- seeing we haven’t seen what additions us and other teams make which could shake things up. That said you can think this team is very good and a contender and STILL want to improve it or think a trade makes it even better /increases your odds of a title even more.
Not sure how wanting to trade for Kevin Durant suddenly makes the team we have currently become dog **** all the sudden? it doesn’t diminish the team. You are simply saying while this version is really good, a version with Kevin Durant in jaylens place would be even better and give us even greater odds at a banner.
A banner in June.....not the best record from January on banner.

No my evidence is we lost to the worst warriors championship team they’ve ever had in 6 games. We lost 3 straight games - something we didn’t do at all once we hit our stride (so much for regular season stats huh) and won the first game with an incredible shooting performance at that. My evidence is that statistics in the regular season don’t matter all that much if you don’t finish the job and we didn’t- much like Milwaukee’s historical srs rating in 2019.
My evidence is we barely and I mean barely beat the bucks and the bucks didn’t have their 2nd best player. Again, they are a really good team and yes with luck could have won the championship. Luck is apart of most teams who win a championship but getting to play milwaukee without Kris Middleton is luck and even with it we still didn’t capitalize with a ring in the end.
You are somehow twisting and bending like a pretzel (a trend for you) me wanting to add Kevin Durant to this squad as somehow an indictment on it not being a very good team or a contender. I just think with Kevin Durant we wouldn’t just be a contender but the odds on favorite to win the title and much better than this years/current team.....pretty simple stuff.
That said you started quoting me hours ago and I’ve wasted way way way too much time on someone who celebrates being a regular season stats champ and quotes the teams general manager in support of his take. This isn’t some outlandish opinion. This team with Kevin Durant is way more dangerous and way more likely to win a ring than with Jaylen brown- whether silly little j anons agree or not.

So your evidence for the Celtics not being a great team.... is that they didn't win the championship.
The 2008 team "barely" beat a Cavs team led by a 22 year old Lebron and role players. I don't even have to mention the Hawks series.
The Nets were favored to win it with (a younger) KD/Harden/Kyrie. How'd that go? They were the betting favorites to win it literally days before the Playoffs this year. How'd that go? Forgive me if I'm not taking a 34 year old KD led team winning it all as a given.

So your evidence for the Celtics not being a great team.... is that they didn't win the championship.Strong argument there. So there is one great NBA team per season. Winning it all would have made them one of the youngest championship teams in recent memory. A feat they almost accomplished, again, with a hobbled team. I'll go with the overwhelming data, the results, and the upside of this team over "lolz j anons" any day of the week.
The 2008 team "barely" beat a Cavs team led by a 22 year old Lebron and role players. I don't even have to mention the Hawks series. Our guys went up against first ballot HOFers in every round, including the best player in the league (Giannis), and the very man you are suggesting we break the team up for. Oh, and WE dealt with injuries throughout the entire run. Now all of a sudden we had and easy road and that was all a fluke. Got it.
The Nets were favored to win it with (a younger) KD/Harden/Kyrie? How'd that go? They were the betting favorites to win it literally days before the Playoffs this year. How'd that go? Forgive me if I'm not taking a 34 year old KD led team winning it all as a given.
I mean I said all year that I didn’t think the Celtics were gonna win a ring- even during the hot streak/great play from January on. So that should show you all the faith I put in “stats” and “data” I said we lacked offense and in the end we kind of did. This wasn’t a great team. It had a great defense but overall? No. I was consistent all year and never wavered. Not once did I think they were a great team. Fun as hell to watch? Yup. Great defense? Yup. But a great team? No.
You keep saying almost this almost that but like they didn’t win it all. Your stats and data and all that mean jack **** without the ring. never said it was a fluke. We were better than Brooklyn, better than Miami , but clearly not better than the warriors and we were NOT better than a healthy bucks team and yes had we pulled off a ring I’d think we got real lucky - which many champions do.

Re: Poll: would you trade JB for KD?
I'm trying to think of an example in NBA history when a player as good as Jaylen was traded for a player as old as Durant, and the result was a championship. Wilt, Kareem, and Shaq weren't 34 years old before their trades to the Lakers, Lakers and Heat respectively. Drexler, who wasn't 34 either, was traded to Houston for beans. Ed McCauley was only 28 when the Hawks got him, and had barely turned 30 when he won them a ring.

Re: Poll: would you trade JB for KD?
No way I could possibly answer Yes or No to an open question that doesn't clarify exactly what we give up for KD.
If it was JB plus a **** load of picks then yes. It may also depend on the **** load. But likely yes.
I think there might be better ways to use assets that could get us over the top and in contention for a longer period. But ultimately, provided you're not giving up other player assets of note then you couldn't say no to KD's talent, and I love JB.
I also think I'd prefer to win a chip with JB than with KD, but nothing is for certain and KD is more likely to give you a chip now.

I can't think of anyone since Maxwell for Walton doesn't really qualify. Max had already declined and was about to turn 31. Walton was about to turn 34 about 5 games into 85-86 season,.

Top 5 players rarely become available and when they do you gotta try to get him. There is no guarantee brown even stays beyond his current contract. This longer window people are talking about includes contracts that haven't even been signed yet and might not ever be. KD's game will age beautifully.

Here we go again. But we made progress. Till months ago people would love to trade Jaylen for Halyburton, now we are talking about KD.
Like I told you several times, celtics are not going to trade Jaylen. So enjoy your new toy but you are loosing time.

KD being the much better player the next couple of years really isn’t debatable though.
We’ll see. Set an alarm for 2025 my friend!
So I’ll ask this differently.
Do you think KD drops to a top 20 or lower guy? Or do you think Jaylen jumps to a top 10 guy? Because he’s going to be 26 when the season starts, huge jumps almost never happen after that.

I asked it just to get people on the record for an opinion we can revisit later. I think it’s pretty obvious that the “debate” (such as it is) is unlikely to sway anyone’s opinions, especially with the “yes” voters mostly posting things like “omfg lol obviously yes”

Would I trade JB for a prime Durant? Yes. But this isn’t Durant in his prime. He just got swept & we made it to the finals.

Jaylen hasn't just plateau'd, he's gotten worse this season compared to the last season. So maybe let's put the brakes on Jaylen the Infinite Improver talk?
