Really excited to have Porzingis. Probably the best 3rd option in the league. Having him in the middle, changes our defense. Man, Butler can’t pump fake inside against a 7’3 with long wong span, as against pump faking against a 6’8 Rob and 6’9 Horf. He changes everything on defense for us just by standing in the middle. He can really bother/alter shots. On offense, we have a guy that can really literally get off a shot anytime he wants. Something that Rob or horf can’t do. An added scorer that brings a different option for us. Imagine a lineup of White, brown, Tatum, horf and porzingis????? All are good on both ends. You can’t actually leave anyone open. Would be hard to double the Jays with this lineup. Tatum single coverage would be hard to stop. I love this deal. So excited!

I’m just excited to have a 7-3 guy in the paint when shots are missed. He may not be quick or jump very high …. but anytime a guy has to shoot in the paint he can put his hand up and bother them. Rob and Al are amazing help defenders. Al can do a great job defending the post and Rob can come out of nowhere to block a shot. But both are 6-9 and when there is a broken play off a missed shot and they are out of position they just aren’t able to alter shots, KP is going to bring so much length next to those guys it’s going to be hard to score in the paint against us this year.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Interior defense got better. Point of attack defense and help/team defense worse. Scoring talent upgraded but passing & playmaking took a hit. The ball still has to move. We added another finesse player (admittedly gets to the line more than anybody on the team) but toughness & intangibles are now lacking more than ever. Who's gonna step up as this team's glue guy?

Let's see what else Brad has up his sleeve.

Read on Twitter

Hehe the opposite of Smart really. To be fair to KP, this has changed when he arrived in Washington. Still yet to see how he does in a playoff setting. His last playoff stint in Dallas wasn't encouraging.

Smart has occasionally beaten Porzingis (e.g. for a rebound) in the past.

He was a dumb ass when he was young, too. In particular, Tommy blamed Ryan's lobbying for him getting fired from his brief HoF coaching career.

Expecting more mismatch hunting offense which I don't mind esp if it triggers defensive rotations and ball movement for us.

He won't pass up the opportunity to play for Latvia in the World Cup (in Japan I think). It's their first time qualifying.

Been going over some zinger stuff and it’s been eye opening that he’s really a 4. All his best numbers come when he’s at the 4. Wizards best lineup was with zinger and gafford together. So when you think of him as a 4; he’s an elite rim protector, great scorer and good passer for the position. Lacks mobility on the perimeter defensively for a 4 but our bigs are versatile enough we can help him out there.

Bob Ryan hasn't been relevant in a while now, sadly. Used to be good but now just writes old man yells at cloud crap.

agreed, our best lineups will be KP with Rob/Horf on the frontline. in the past when teams went small+fast we had to match that because we had nobody who could take advantage of that on offense. KP changes that.

Rim protection numbers are excellent for Zinger. Chart shows leaders in differential between expected or normal fg% within 6 feet of the rim and when defended by these guys. Minimum 40 games played and 6 fga per game defended.

I agree. Rob and Horf can’t really score on the post and punish smaller lineups. With Zinger, we can give the ball on the post for that easy jumpshot. Nobody can guard zinger actually. He can get off any shot, anytime he wants because of his size

Note that Rob would have been 9th in the league, had he played enough games to qualify--and that was coming in midseason off surgery and largely being misused by his coach.

Others have noted Rob was biting really hard on pump fakes this year for some reason. Have to agree on that.

True. Tom Curran isn't particularly smart, and he's one of the smartest on the football beat.
