I still don’t like drop coverage on shooters against the heat and warriors..
White and holiday would get screened off by bam and then KP and Horford would watch from the free throw line to see Herro and Duncan Robinson get clean looks for three.

Jammer wrote:White and Holiday played like All-Stars. Brown got his sh*t together, despite 4 TO's and poor shooting in the first half. Still, Joe is going to have to figure out how to get something out of SOMEONE OTHER THAN his Top 6 guys. He's got all season, but he's got to figure out a way to get contributions from his 7th thru 9th men, WHOEVER THEY TURN OUT TO BE.
An alternative perspective:
Pts. + Rebounds + (0.5 x Assists) + Steals + (0.5 x Blocks) - Missed FGs - (0.5 x Missed Free Throws) - Turnovers - (0.5 x Fouls)
+29 Derrick White (36 minutes)
+23 Jrue Holiday (36 minutes)
+19.5 Kristaps Porzingis (30 minutes)
+19 Jaylen Brown (33 minutes)
+15.5 Jayson Tatum (41 minutes)
+3.5 Oshae Brisset (14 minutes)
+2.5 Sam Hauser (10 minutes)
+2.5 Payton Pritchard (13 minutes)
+2 Al Horford (25 minutes)
Team Total = 116.5
You post this formula after every game, but I can never figure out why an assist would be worth half a rebound. What's the reasoning?

Just finished watching....Screw Spoelstra for complaining about that last play---Heat FLOPPED all night and got every call. Ridiculous.

Also, we go up 8 points with 4 minutes to play and once again, Tatum starts walking the ball up the court---twice and comes up with 2 empty possessions. Get the ball to a guard and stop letting Tatum do the same thing over and over....c'mon man.

If I knew he would shave his head and get rid of the ridiculous hairdo he had last year….I would have given another pick swap. He is very much a dude now.
I prefer the hair.
Dude plays like this he can wear a Merkin for all I care.

Liked brissette's hustle. While everyone's shooting, he's running towards the ball rebounding like his l9fe depended on it.

That's the Jrue effect.
Last season Smart was so unpredictable in the clutch.
Jrue as the PG gives the Cs stability and consistency.
Not solely. Having a big like Porzingis who can catch inside or on the roll AND make something out of it is a game-changer esp against a Miami team that likes to play zone.
White was also more of the PG in this game, not Jrue.
With a little over 3 minutes remaining, KP fouled out.
So it was back to the old Al as the Center lineup.
White was with the Celtics last season.
The difference is instead of Smart in there in the clutch, it was Jrue.
Miami had success in containing JT and JB in the clutch last season.
That's why Smart was forced to take over because the Jays were stifled.
With 1:29 remaining, Herro made a 3 to cut the Celtic lead to 108-112.
Jrue responded by making a jumper with 1:10 remaining to give the Cs some cushion.
It really feels different now.
Last season the Cs would've lost this game in the clutch.

I think it's good for the Cs if they play more games like this.
Domination is a year from now.
This season the Celts will still have to gel.
Close games like this will only make them more prepared for what's to come in the playoffs.

Yep. Especially Bam and Jimmy, and they NEVER get called for a flopping violation.

Weren’t Jaquez & Jovic supposed to be key pieces in a trade package for Lillard ?

Continuing to build to something great; 80 games left.
Embrace the construction process; no one wants to peak in November.

Can't deny the impact of having a big like KP for this team. It's not solely the Smart-for-Jrue swap. Cs also don't get a game 7 vs the Sixers if Smart didn't keep them alive in game 6 until Tatum's late-game heroics.

Brown got a late rebound, swung and elbow and lowry instantly threw his head back and looked at the ref and then played on. That's gotta be a flop too

Only 8 points weren't scored by the starters. Every starter scoring 17+ and grabbing 6+ rebounds. 26 of the 32 4th quarter points were scored by White and Brown. Pretty cool to have a team who has a handful of guys who can step up every game. Against NYK, it was Tatum and Porzingis. Past few seasons, it was mostly just the Jays every night leading the scoring.

Cs shooting 35.9% from 3 in the two games. So far unbothered by shooting variance. Finding different ways to score/win.

Was about to post, it’s a make or miss league but we still winning when they hitting.
Look there’s a lot of work to do and the other team wants to win too but it’s pretty clear to me they’re on their way to creating a different level of team this season.
These 2 games were a good start. I just feel like there’s an impatience living here on realgm, which I understand cause we’re fans but we wanna peak in April -may-June. Not now.

Yeah, no doubt about KP's impact.
But what I'm talking about is the last 3:18 where KP fouled out and the Cs were back to the traditional Celtic lineup of Al at the 5.
The change was Jrue instead of Smart.
Also, Smart's a great player, he's just not consistent and very unpredictable in the clutch.
Smart had his chance when Kyrie left and became a starter from 2019-20 to 2022-23.
Cs came close but no championship in that span.
Jrue is a proven commodity.
Giannis never reached the finals until Jrue became a Milwaukee Buck.

True.
The 2007 Mavs won 67 games and got eliminated by the #8 seed Warriors of Baron Davis.
A case of the peaking too early.
