It's qualitative commentary but I liked Tatum's nasty edge in the third quarter. He looked and played pissed off, in a productive way.

(As usual he was brain dead on three point shot selection all game long but played well otherwise after halftime)

For about the fifth time I'll ask -- are we SURE DWhite isn't a flat out star?

He's the best decision maker on the team by a wide, wide margin. And he's our best three point shooter. If we're going to insist on all the three point jacks in high leverage situations, can we please have White do it instead of Tatum?

Just checked the box score.

Cs just shot 28.2% from 3 and got outrebounded 57 to 43.

No way the Cs would have won this game last season.

KP was the difference maker, ending up with 35 points.

Cs are no longer a live by the 3, die by 3 team.

KP and White are our two best clutch players clearly, and I don't think it's debatable at this point.

That’s **** terrible. He’s almost unstoppable at the post, or when he tries to attack the basket. He should just try to post it up everytime and limit those dribble dribble pull ups. When he does that, i’m like shouting don’t you dare take that 3 lol. Good thing at least, he seems to trust KP and White more and more.

Thought Tatum was stellar tonight.

Just shooting bad 3s.

That’s basically what i said. If he didn’t chuck that many pull up 3’s, we wouldn’t have been down big early on. He’s played great when he stopped chucking. Also, he’s the team’s best player, he must lead by example. If he constantly takes pull ups and be a ball stopper, others will follow.

He was great when he moves the ball and attacks the basket.

Someone must have just looked at the boxscore and didn't actually see the game.

They didn’t. That’s why we got back in the game. Sometimes these guys and Joe needs a good reminder that live and die by the 3 ain’t sustainable. Its fine taking them, if the team has it. But, they shouldn’t let other team get big leads before we decide to abandon the 3. Getting the ball to porzingis in the middle should be one of the main priority on offense. Opens up a lot of opportunities and wide open shots. They need to double zinger, else he’ll take those mid ranges. If they double, tatum and white are always open.

To the discussion going in another thread:

"White said the Celtics' 'reinvention' offensively during the west coast trip aimed to get into their actions earlier in the shot clock so they can make multiple passes, plays, etc."

Dude, it's basically just one half where they decided to shoot less threes. Too early to say they are no longer a live by the 3 and die by the 3 team.

Tatum’s drive game is so strange. He really can get to the basket at will, but it feels like he has zero bag when he does so. Its like he is banking on I’m almost always either faster or bigger than the guy guarding me so I’ll just go full throttle. Almost all of his layup attempts are heavily contested or out of control which results in layup attempts that come up short or are too strong and dont even touch the rim.

He never changes up his timing or his angles to shed the defender. I don’t know if anyone else noticed but its weird to me. He could be so much better

It wasnt just bad 3s

He blew multiple layups doing the same stupid spin moves.

Playing like a player with zero offensive skills the last few weeks

Was watching a few of his games from a few seasons ago the other day. Christmas boredom.

Even though the stats probably suggest otherwise, swear his finishing isn’t as smart as it has been in the past.

All his 3 attempts these days are the exact same garbage too.

Don’t know why he thinks shooting 11 heavily contested 3s is the answer.

Even Steph Fkn Curry doesn’t shoot 11 contested 3s.

Yeah, a quarter or 2.

The addition of KP is really the difference when the 3s are not falling.

They are not anymore because the dynamics has changed.

This is not the first game where the Cs went to KP inside in crunch time.

Check the close wins against Miami and Toronto.

I'll take your word for it... I remember someone doing that not that long ago. Maybe it's the buzzer beaters specifically he seems to miss alot? Idk what the stats are for that. Just seems that way.

Small sample but he hasn't done well in this particular scenario:

Read on Twitter

1 for his last 11 now.

Was Kobe “the guy” on game winners. In this sample (02-03 to mid February 08-09, including playoffs), Kobe shot .250 (14 for 56) in the last 24 seconds with the game tied or down 1 or 2, with a 75% free throw percentage.

Honestly, I think it was a good bad win. A lot of teams would have folded after that first half, being the first game back after a west coast trip.

First half=horrid, atrocious, whatever. The rest was good stuff IMO, including the offense down the stretch again. They’ve figured out something with the White/Tatum/KP two and three man games. It’s creating a ton of open looks, without anybody overdribbling. Even if they don’t convert on all of them, that’s a sustainable crunch time playoff offense.

A good bad win is an excellent way to describe it. The 3 man game was big down the stretch so hopefully they find something there that works even when we aren’t playing a really poor defensive team like Detroit. This team, expectedly, has some tinkering to do with 2 added starters and White having a bigger role so in all seriousness it’s good to still get wins AND figure things out during the season.

On the Player Comparison board, and by extension also in the GF, Bird is downgraded in the GOAT rankings because he supposedly was so bad in the clutch.

However, that's more about entire postseason series or games than it is about actual crunch time.
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".
