The Celtics would have repeated as NBA Champions in 1982 if starting PG Nate Archibald did not dislocate his shoulder in the 2nd playoff game against Philadelphia. Allowed Lakers to hoist another trophy.

In 1983 Philadelphia was in a zone rarely seen, going 12-1 in the playoffs, while Milwaukee swept the Celtics.

In 1985 and 1987 Lakers beat Boston 4-2. If Len Bias had lived, Celtics would have won in 1987 and 1988.

I can only go on what most historians agree on and that Casey Jones was a mid coach who was only here because it placated Bird.

Well, he is one of the only double-championship winners not to be in the HoF as a coach. On the other hand, he got his rather questionable selection to the HoF as a player long after he retired, but shortly after his stint as Celtics HC.

Frankly, the 80s were a transition era for coaching. Schemes were still simple, and the coach's main roles were motivation (incuding for practice) and rotation management. From a current-winning standpoint, KC did fine; it's tough to imagine how another coach could have induced them to play better yet.

The bigger question is whether poor injury management (notably McHale playing on a broken foot) can be partly blamed on him.

No. It was KC for that postseason, and then a year more after that.

KC was succeeded by Jimmy Rodgers anyway. Ford only came after him.
