Just an FYI - Tatum would be more likely to injure his calf as a soft tissue injury than his Achilles again. After the surgery it’s all about building up the strength in the calf muscle more so than anything else.

Same as an ACL injury - because they take the it from the hamstring you see a lot of players injuring their hamstring afterwards

I know a lot of people are nervous about his return, understandably so, but this is great news. Bouncing back from injury quickly is a good thing. The alternative is set backs and a longer than expected recovery.

I'm thinking they might bring him back a couple games before the all star break. Let him play 3-7 games then take a short break.

Ok this is not a good comp. But on my 58th birthday (18 months ago)I tore my MCL an Meniscus and it has taken quite a bit of time to heal. I can now squat 300 again, Run and jump relatively well...

BUT ...

When I try to play basketball I have either a conscious or Sub-conscious fear of making many of my normal movements. I strongly favor my good leg. and I just can't seem to get over it.

Now JT being young and having the best doctors/trainers in the world gives him light years better advantage.

But..

The amount of usage and type of cutting/stopping/jumping/change of direction that JT will be doing, makes me believe it may take quite some time to get over the mental hurdles he may have.

Remember JT's injury wasn't a result of contact and That has to be in JT's mind that it can happen again..

I just see nothing positive about JT returning until he is both 100% physically and mentally the same as he played before.

All I can say is JT is no ordinary dude.

Before the Cs won a championship, there were some who said JT and JB will never win a championship because they're mental midgets.

They were also accused of not being clutch and not having that "dawg" in them.

In the end JT ended up winning a chip at the age of 26.
That's something guys like Shaq, Steph, Lebron, and MJ failed to achieve.

There's something different about Jayson Tatum.

When you see him and hear him talk, he seems like an ordinary guy.
But he's very competitive and he and JB are basketball junkies.
That's why when I heard the things JT said after the surgery, I knew he was coming back this season.
JT said something to the effect like he felt he got robbed.

I think that achilles injury made JT a driven man.
All those workout videos, just weeks after surgery, is proof of that.

While it's really possible JT will not be himself when he returns, I wouldn't bet against JT.
Sure not 100% like 1st Team All-NBA JT, but I think an 80% JT is realistic.

JT has gone this far in such a short period of time.
Doing the surgery just 12 hours after getting injured was really a game changer.

Only time will tell, but having been a fan of JT since 2017, I doubt that getting injured again is something he's thinking about.

JT has been consistent his whole career.

He's not the type to throw BS at the media.

When he says he's playing this season, he's playing.

I wouldn't consider it BS if he didn't play. He obviously said that because he really wants to play and plans to do everything he can to get back healthy as quickly as possible. Nobody ever doubted that. I still won't believe it until I see it. As Brad said, he isn't gonna be back until he is 110% and feels good about it. I don't think that happens this season. We will see though.

That's fair.

I see this as similar to that of what happened to Michael Jordan in 1985 when he broke his foot in October then came back in March, 1986.

That's also the year MJ scored 63 points against the Cs in the playoffs.

Nothing is official until we see the team release its injury report that says:

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Just remember when it says "Jayson Tatum - AVAILABLE", maybe in February, Fierce has been saying that since September.

Jayson Tatum - AVAILABLE

We fine in the east :) :) :) 8-) 8-)

But if we want deep playoff run.I think we must have Tatum by Mid March.

I give chances for his return like this

January:0 %
February:25%
March:50-70%

It was always more likely he would return than less likely as long as he had no setbacks.

Modern medicine has really come a long way.

Setbacks from achilles injuries, that I know of, are rare.

Someone posted this comment on the GB...

.
Interesting that Tatum and Australian NBL player Sam Froling who is coached by Justin Tatum have been keeping in touch on their rehab of achilles tears. Froling done his on March 19 and Tatum on May 12.
Froling made his comeback last night in the Xmas day game against the Sydney Kings and came back extremely well. Hoping Tatum comes back soon and just as well.

That's why that 1 year timetable for achilles tears is outdated.

According to Dr. Sutterer, the high risk of tearing an achilles again is at 6 months.
When it's 7 months, the risk of tearing it again is lower, again, according to Dr. Sutterer.

I think Tatum can already play in January, but I doubt the Cs and Tatum's camp would do that.

According to Brad, JT has milestones to achieve before he can come back and start playing.

So I think January will be the month that JT will achieve those milestones and by February, we'll finally see him play again.

I had JT playing in March, so if he returns in February, my estimate was too conservative.
