While more than a few of us have been seeing Payton through our green tinted glasses, it seems that his game looks just as good without them. People are beginning to take notice of his value. Glad he is on our team.

An NBA coach on Pritchard from Steve Bulpett:
But it was an NBA coach who said, “I wish you’d have talked to me for that story. I’d have given you a damn comment.”

And?

“You’re playing the Celtics and no one has all that much time to prepare for one game in the regular season,” he said. “So obviously at shootaround and before the game you’re focusing on (Jaylen) Brown and (Jayson) Tatum.

“Then,” he added through a laugh, “this little (expletive) comes into the game and starts lighting us up. That (expletive) ain’t fair.”

The form on his shot is fantastic and he knows how to use his body on offense to fend off taller defenders. He can also pass and his defense for his size is good to great, imo. I hope he continues to get big minutes to give both White and Jrue a bit of a breather during the regular season and cup. I also hope he gets a big role in the playoffs and wins the 6th man award(which imo he should be leading so far, it may be him and Malik Monk).

edit: and by the way, Danny is somewhere in Utah smilig. He got us Tatum, Brown, Horford, Pritchard and Hauser from the current championship squad.
Good assessment:

Hauser is a Stevens find and I think Ainge is smiling because he is in prime position to draft Cooper Flagg but no question he built the foundation of this team.

Not to argue, but Hauser has been a C since 2021... Danny was the GM back then, maybe Brad wanted him, but it was still Dannys call.

Danny's the man, by the way. Nobody like him... One of my favs, his personality, attitude, all of it to me got us to where we are. Brad is amazing, but I believe teams eased up on trading with us cause Danny was gone.

It's true Sam has been with the Cs since 2021.

But Ainge retired in June, 2021, then Brad was named POBO, replacing Ainge.

Sam was signed in August, 2021, as an undrafted free-agent.

So it's Brad who got Sam.

Yes. The story goes like this-

Hauser's first choice was Miami due to how they had brought along Duncan Robinson. The Heat wanted Sam too, but only offered him a chance to compete for a two way spot on their summer league team.

Other teams including the Celtics were also interested and did offer a contract. Hauser and his family chose Boston because they liked Brad Stevens as he was a midwestern guy who they could relate to.

Teams like the Lakers miss out on top 3 picks.

Danny went 2 for 2 in 2016 and 2017.

Both Jays at #3 became the start of a new dynasty.

Still can't get over the fact that over a six year stretch his top draft picks for each season were:
Kelly Olynyk (13th)
Marcus Smart (6th)
Terry Rozier (16th)
Jaylen Brown (3rd)
Jayson Tatum (3rd)
Robert Williams (27th)
That has to be one of the greatest run of sustained draft excellence in NBA history.

What are the odds Pritchard takes over for Jrue after this season and we trade Holiday to save money? That would be crazy to start for a team for two years, win titles both years, then get traded due to tax/cap reasons. Just spitballing here.

I would slow down a bit on Pritchard taking Holiday’s starting spot. He’s doing this in the regular season. As a backup where getting exploited on defense is less of a concern.

Holiday is a two-time champion who played really well for us just this spring. What makes the Celtics nearly unstoppable is the high-level two-way play of all five guys in the starting unit. Love what PP has been doing for us so far and how he hustles on D, but he’s still a weak link on that end due to his size esp once game slows down.

Only trade away starting five player if owner mandated it. And even then I’d want a playoff starter level player in return.

i NEED to say, playoffs or regular season, after his impact on us winning the chip I’ll never doubt Pritch again. That is a short BEAST! He doesn’t care about anything, when it’s time for winning, he’ll hit a shot from hell to win it if he has to!! He’s never going half force, good game or bad, he gives his all!

I wanted Caruso something fierce, would have traded Pritch early last season, but mostly wanted them both. Because defense wins championships, squabble with your momma! The thing is, I didn’t account for EVERYTHING Pritch could do. I knew he could get red hot and he’s always been a shooter but what he did last season, even more this early season, I didn’t think he would do consistently enough that his height wouldn’t make it diminished in the playoffs. Flashes mean nothing if you can’t show it in the playoffs because you can’t get in the game because of D (height).

He did miss some minutes because of his height in the playoffs (finals), but those threes we love to watch weren’t just great because of how far they were or for being buzzer beaters, they had huge impact on us winning the chip. Both sucked every bit of thought they would win from the mavs! Just saw it crush their souls, but not only that, it gave the others players a lift that they may not have had otherwise. It was like, “if he’s hitting those, this must be our time!” The boost it gave the guys was crazy! They all spoke about it.

He also gave Luka hell in important moments a few times on D too! I really thought he gave us a boost so many times throughout the playoffs that we may not have won without it. Everyone that played gave us boosts and were key in the playoffs in their few opportunities, it doesn’t get said enough. We don’t win without that bench!

What Pritchard has done this season has already won us games even if he’ll never get the recognition he deserves!

Not just for tonight, it adds to it of course, but I think Pritchard is Brunson on another team. I just believe now, for what we need, he’ll have to sacrifice that. Can he start and win the chip, i don’t know, Brunson may have to prove that before I believe… unless Pritch gets the chance here (please no, someone important would be hurt).

Sometimes a guy has IT that may not be the #1 or even #5, but can be a major key to you winning a ring. Big Shot Bob will never be mistaken for top 100 all time, maybe not close, but he was a major winner, he hit the clutch shots for chips multiple times. Some people could be KG without Horry. No diss either way. Pritch can do something like that. He’ll just have to accept, maybe for his career, not being all he can.

Pritchard is exciting to watch even when his shot isn’t dropping, because he’s always doing something! The guy just cares about the game!! It feels good to see people not taking their talent for granted. Yes, it’s times 1000 when the shot is dropping but the guy is always worth watching because he’ll do ANYTHING to contribute. Sometimes he’ll shoot poorly that a person could forget the guy is assisting and rebounding his butt off and NEVER turning it over! When people talk about the great dribblers they need to speak on P because, how is he not turning it over?

HIS GREAT HANDLES are underrated, even by Celts fans. No, it’s not flashy like a Kyrie, but that man has strong hands and they are quick asl! It is amazing to see when I just focus on him. Plus he’s low to the ground, not just height wise, it’s like he bounces the ball so low at times, it’s like you can’t push a dime under it. No one can steal it because it’s out of reach! Special. I saw his dribbling videos long ago, rookie season and after, but it wasn’t until this off-season where I really watched him and thought about it. I had to focus on it to appreciate just how excellent it is.

Anyway, I’m not going to pretend like I was his biggest fan forever. Would have traded him if we needed to for Caruso. Didn’t fully believe in what he could be for us. Saw the box and put him in it. I know a few people believed and never wavered. History/I won’t hide that I want one of those people. I just want to say, I feel good when I watch him, and I’m happy the organization stood on what they believed! They knew and they stood on business to keep him! Thank you BRAD AND CELTICS, most of all, THANK YOU PLEASURE P!!

We have both of them, I wanna enjoy that. Jrue is amazing, I’ll leave it at that, I don’t feel like going into what Jrue is and what Pritch isn’t. I’m like you, don’t fix it if it’s not broken and if not forced to!

The Sixers traded away Jrue Holiday and have been irrelevant ever since.
The Pelicans traded away Jrue Holiday and have been irrelevant ever since.
The Bucks traded away Jrue Holiday and have been irrelevant ever since.
Even if ownership mandates a payroll reduction, Holiday isn't the guy you trade to make it happen.

Nope. The new Owner(s) hopefully won't mess with what Wyc and Brad have built here.

Jrue is a glue guy, one of the most valuable players we had in last year's playoff and finals run.

We can carry him right now with his current struggles due to our depth, but his experience and poise will be needed again come playoff time.

We don't want to run the risk of sabotaging a potential dynasty in order to save some money under the Tax Apron. That's what Denver did and now paying the price.
