Btw, there is a thread on the GB about Giannis and it's a bit bizarre but the point the guy is making is that Giannis can't average over 20 without the FTAs. And it's true, with a smaller court, less space, zone defense and more physical game, Giannis is not that scary at all. With that being said, the way the NBA markets him, he will continue drawing 10, maybe 10+ fouls a game and with him initiating the contact, he will still be close to unguardable.

It's the truth. Giannis gets away with murder and so do a lot of other players - the so-called star treatment.

In international play it (mostly) doesn't matter if your name is LeBron or Giannis. You get a whistle if it seems to be a foul, you don't get it if doesn't. There will always be bad calls and the fame of a particular player may influence them somewhat but there's usually no bull calls at this level.

Another thing that makes guys like Giannis less effective is the lack of defensive three-second violation. Without it teams are able to use a more compact zone defense and pack the paint, making penetration more difficult. The lack of a good outside shot becomes much more visible and important.

Yep. That's part of it.

And it all fits with the image of him as a guy who plans his moves rather than adapting quickly on the fly.

He said he wanted to get to the line more and he got bigger and is more aggressive with his takes to the hoop. Its definitely a promising start— many of the FIBA no calls will be 2 FTs in the NBA.

Oh and btw I've always said that to me Giannis is a tad overrated. I like his drive, worth ethic, etc and he's a super gifted athlete with great size and length, but his skill outside of passing is nothing special. His half court offense consists of a few dribbles-> drive to the basket-> foul, dunk or lay up. I've said it 5-6 times, what I call skill was for example when I watched Pierce, Garnett, Allen(foot work, dribble, everything)... Giannis to me is a physical specimen who's very well marketed by the NBA(he was in every other commercial during breaks in the NBA playoffs) and has been thriving cause of it. I doubt Tatum gets as many FTAs if he initiates contact on drives in the NBA even if he tries like Ante does.

While I get that the Lakers haven't been relevant for a while and you need something to talk about, using FIBA basketball as a means to disparage the Celtics isn't a strong effort.

The Lakers used to be a proud franchise. You should be better than this.
