The New Pornographers' new album is out, and it kicks major ass (as usual). Highly-intelligent earworms is their calling card. (And Neko Case's voice, of course.)

Possibly the long (long, long, long) awaited new album?

Another rock legend has passed.....Boston's own J Giles has passed away at the age of 71......

The J Giles band will always be remembered as the house band for the infamous Boston Tea Party where he and his cohorts got their start as the opening act for you name em.......from the Allman Brothers to Led Zeppelin....

One of my favourite voices in music, Allison Moorer, belting it out live with her sister Shelby Lynne. Her voice is always in perfect pitch, no need for digital post-processing.

Thought it was great, and visuals told a sort of subliminal story that held it all together. Interesting look at mental illness/suffering, and another 'mature' superhero series that underplays the fantastic stuff, or here blends it into the style.

Aubrey Plaza was incredible. For the first three episodes I legit didn't know what was real and what was fake. The angriest little boy was super scary! An excellent interpretation of scource material.

Generally, I have a hard time getting into country music, but this almost veers into a rock n roll feel, and I love hearing women rock out as vocalists in rock and roll bands.

This my show off my country music ignorance, but this song gives me a bit of an old Johnny B. Goode vibe.

Haven't seen Legion and now I'm interested.

Side note-Aubrey Plaza. God I love her.

Caution, if you love Aubrey Plaza, who as an actor is incredible in this series, you will definitely see her in a whole new light.

can't think of a better "villain" performance off the top of my head. Up there with Ledger and Nicholson's Jokers, really complex and inspired

Just watched Fate of the Furious...........I thought it was mediocre, and this is coming from a guy who absolutely loves this franchise.

I don't really take the Fast series seriously too much. I think most of them I have watched on Planes and they done the job of being fun enough to make time go by. I don't think I can tell you much of what happened though aside from the awesome Brazil scenes.

Yeah. That's the key to the Fast and Furious series - can't take them seriously. I dig them for the cars, action, and unintentionally funny dialogue. Vin Diesel is hilarious when he tries to be serious.

Yeah, I can't make myself listen to traditional country music nor pseudo-country pop manufactured in Nashville. I do like the alternative country stuff (Jayhawks, early Wilco, Flying Burrito Bros., early Ryan Adams solo work, or indie artists like Gina Villalobos).

Speaking of which...

Legion is just a weird, weird show. And I don't mean to make that sound like it's bad because it definitely isn't. That it's a Marvel show though just makes it incredibly unique. Kind of a ground-level mutant show in the way that Jessica Jones or Daredevil is ground-level. I was not familiar with the source material whatsoever so I find it kinda wild and refreshing to take on the story of a mutant with DID and show us something completely different from anything that we've seen in the comic book genre. I think Jessica Jones comes a little close but still very unique. I kinda had to wrap my mind around the fact that I had to approach this show differently than I did other Marvel properties or else I would miss its particular genius and that took a while.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

I just did as well. What a let down after the last one. I didn't even think it was mediocre. I thought it sucked. Although, Statham KILLED. The Rock is always solid as well. I'm a big fan of the series and wish Wan directed this one.

Don't even know the villain that you're talking about, but (and this is NOT a knock on you) I feel like saying Ledger and Nicholson's Joker's were the best villains has become such a lazy statement.

I mean, by villain are we just saying comic book movies or all movie villains in general? Great topic for discussion, if nothing else. :)

Yeah, true, I was just reaching for common reference points. Plaza's character, without spoiling anything, is a little bit comic book villain and has a little of that 'demonic' quality at times - but it's a quicksilver, complicated performance, and because of the genre, she's able to do things as an actress that you can't really do if you're, like, a Bond villain. I'm really at a loss to describe it- and it's also a performance that melds with the visuals of the show in interesting ways - so it's not, like, the kind of acting available in other films.

Actually a good film nerd reference might be this one:
