If a Blake Griffin trade doesn't get done because we are not willing to give up either Brooklyn pick I find that rediculous. Only way I can see that being an issue is if they want Smart, Brown and a Brooklyn pick. Even then I think we would have to consider it if it lands us Blake Griffin.
Thomas, Bradley, Crowder, Griffin, Horford wins us the East. Hands down.

Still think Cavs take that team down.

Would you have said that before this year's playoffs? The Cavs still have huge weaknesses, particularly defensively (outside of Lebron). They also don't have a coach (outside of Lebron). I would pick the Celts in 6.

I have enormous faith in LeBron and he keeps coming through. They'd have the best guy in the series, and, depending on what you think of Kyrie/Love/Griffin, maybe the second best as well.
C's in 6 is not crazy but nothing is hands down here.

Re: The Official Off-Season Thread, part I of many
I'm in favor of including one of Bradley, Smart, Rozier, or, reluctantly, Crowder and any pick or picks excluding the BKN picks if they can come up with a package to bring in a star-ish player.
But I don't think I budge in holding the Nets picks. And I hang onto Brown. I'd rather see what steps Smart, Rozier, Crowder, others make and try to sign the star-ish free agent next year. Or trade for him next off-season. If Ainge can strike a deal with one from the group, the C's 2018 1st, the Grizz 2019 1st and/or the Clips 2019 1st, for Griffin, sign me up. Otherwise, I pass.

Personally, I think Crowder is the worst to give up of any of our assets in a trade. Four years left on his extreme bargain contract is huge. We are going to have to overpay Thomas, Smart and Bradley in two years. No way around that...so I would prefer one of those guys.

Would not be favorites in the East. Would not necessarily be favorites to retain Griffin. How would that feel? Ainge isn't going to blow his wad for anything short of multi-year championship contention. Nor should he. It's called perspective.

Agreed, not hands down but if we have homecourt I favor us.

Sorry, every deal I mention comes with a caveat that if it's an expiring contract they agree to an extension before the deal is consumated. Same for Westbrook or Griffin.

Gotcha, fully agreed then, especially if the pick is BK18. I've seen many around here far too eager to throw them into deals like fortune cookies regardless of contract situation.
But even as a Nets Tankologist I'm willing to move '18 for a stud and '17 for a superstud, as long as they're as committed as KG became when he agreed to come here.

Agree on crowder 100%. IT maybe our leader in paper but everybody knows Crowder is our true leader.

Well he may not be the "true leader" but he embodies the ethos of the team. If he leaves, much more will be lost than folks realize.

I love the Nets picks, particularly because next year's draft should be 5 or 6 deep of elite talent (similiar to the wade, james, bosh draft). We are guaranteed to be in the range. By no means do I think we need to make a deal, but at the same time we are 100% guaranteed a star if we land Griffin (with extension), which is greater than the less than 100% chance we land a star in the draft. So if the price is right we need to pull the trigger. At some point we can't afford to keep our full roatation anyway so we need multiple true max caliber players. I would be sad to lose anybody at this point though except maybe Olynyk. I love watching these scrappers.

Do any sites have over/under win totals for the 16-17 season yet?
I saw 5dimes has the Nets at 17.5 wins. That's great. It only has totals for about 5 teams tho.

Brown is looking like real deal. 2017 pick should bring an elite player. Horford, IT, Jae, Smart, KO, Bradley, Rozier all under contract. Yabs, Nader, Zizac stashed but ready to come. Enough money to sign a free agent to max in 2017. Unless Amir + Smart + 2018 pick can bring us Bkake/Cousins/Westbrook......Stand Pat Danny Ainge! You have built it, the free agents will come!
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Thomas is the voice of the team, Crowder is it's soul. That's the best way I can put it.

I think those usually come out during preseason.
