If Kyrie and others are so concerned that the NBA playoffs will distract from the BLM movement, why don't they opt to donate all the money they would have otherwise forfeited towards BLM foundations and charities instead of boycotting and potentially costing financial stability for the majority of players this year and in the future. It would be interesting to hear from some BLM leaders and organizers as to whether they would rather the whole NBA protest or for those players who do not need the income to donate their salaries to the BLM movement. I'm sure LeBron and many other players will use the spotlight to speak outwardly towards the BLM movement in order to keep that in the minds of all the fans as they watch.

It seems selfish and almost self serving for Kyrie to suggest a total boycott when there are plenty of other ways to support the BLM movement. If you are really willing to lose everything in order for reform, then donate the remainder of your contract towards the BLM movement. That would be a bigger, more useful, and selfless act than acting like you are the only player in the NBA who cares about the BLM movement.

https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2020/06/boston-celtics-enes-kanter-superstars-from-an-eastern-conference-playoff-team-arent-going-to-play-when-nba-restarts-in-orlando.html

“I have so many friends on different teams, right?” Kanter said. "I was actually talking to one of my friends, and he said – I’m not going to tell who or which team – but he said, ‘There’s so many guys on our team, that they’re not going to play.’ They’re actually in the Eastern Conference. They’re in a playoff spot.

“And they’re like superstars. If I told you who it is, you’d go crazy. I just can’t tell you who it is. But he said, ‘Hey, they’re not going to play.’ They said until they found a vaccine, until they find a cure, that they’re not going to play.”

So who do we think this is about?

You'd think it's a reference to the Nets duo. But don't we already know they're not going to play? That wouldn't be a shocker. Embiid and Simmons?

Disney staff ["unlikely" to] be quarantined at NBA restart in Orlando
By Kurt Helin | Jun 12, 2020

https://nba.nbcsports.com/2020/06/12/will-disney-staff-be-quarantined-at-nba-restart-in-orlando/
Will the food servers be tested every day? The housekeepers? The custodians? More broadly: What’s the point of quarantining for several weeks and doing daily tests for 22 NBA teams if Disney staff won’t be doing the same?…

Disney workers have not been told to quarantine on campus, according to Eric Clinton, president of Disney’s labor union, United Here Local 362, which represents custodians and ride operators. Clinton told NBC Sports that it was “unlikely” that staffers would be subject to daily testing and quarantine measures like NBA players and team staffers.

What the Hell???
This defeats the purpose.

As it appears, only the NBA (and MLS) personnel will be Quarantined. But Not the Disney employees servicing them.

Imagine signing Kyrie to a max contract, hardly plays in the first year of that contract and then realise it’s a real possibility that he could walk away from it all.

Thank god it’s not us.

If he walks away, I'll be 1. proud of him for doing what Maya Moore did and walking away for social justice 2.  at KD

Couldn't agree more.

I think it's a real possibility and I would 100% be behind his decision it's just incredible that we are here at this stage of change.

You really think Kyrie has the balls to do that? Giving up $100+ million is a LOT more than Maya Moore gave up.

Like, I know Kyrie is an oddball, but his basketball career would be kind of a permanent joke past 2016 if he did retire. Like he has to care about his legacy SOMEWHAT, even if he clearly plans on retiring early.

I don't think anyone can really predict Kyrie. But the death of Kobe and all this American turmoil happening probably has his mind crazy. He needs a break, which he is actually getting btw......

Someone like him needs to see where his mind is at by years end or when the next real season starts up again.

I am doubting he retires as long as KD wants to make a comeback though. He and KD I assumed were best friends who were a packaged pair. So if one guy leaves I think the other would too. I think they will try to give it a shot together on the court eventually.

However the Nets like need a coach too, they have a ton of question marks.

So tired of hearing about Lebron. Assuming this bubble NBA thingie happens, anyone but the Lakers please.

Honestly, it's gonna be an asterisk title anyway to the highest degree so........

Really want to know who won't go but I doubt we find out for a bit.

Well he did say:

but he said, ‘There’s so many guys on our team, that they’re not going to play.’

Sounds like several guys on one team, assuming Kanter got really good info.

Maybe it is the Sixers. Wonder if Al would be out too if Embiid/Simmons also were cause then Al would know they had no chance and he's then not going to risk it.

Also wondered about the Miami Heat. I could see someone like Jimmy Butler not being down with being "bubbled up".

Have to think it can't be the Bucks? My goodness if Giannis was out then the league would go insane.

Raptors?

Not trying to spam but:

“And they’re like superstars. If I told you who it is, you’d go crazy.

They said until they found a vaccine, until they find a cure, that they’re not going to play.”

Gotta be Embiid/Simmons. Then Al and maybe someone else or two on Philly won't play.

Sixers have had a crap year and suck away from Philly so they might say why bother.

And Embiid being from Africa might be a lot more cautious with his upbringing about viruses, keep in mind he was pretty sick last year off and on too in the playoffs they said from a stomach bug.

Thats my guess. If it's a boring team like the Pacers or someone else then boooo Kanter.

It's pretty obviously Philly to me.

Keep in mind, Kanter has two former teammates who could've told him that from Philly, Kyle O'Quinn and Trey Burke.

Honestly nothing would surprise me with Kyrie, his legacy would be even larger leaving it all behind to really push reform and being successful in helping achieve that he's an extremely different person.

Agree.

Although losing Kobe (his mentor) is going to change some things with Kyrie from now on since he no longer can run and text/talk to Kobe before every decision he makes.

I don't think Kyrie is organized enough and a good enough leader to make a big impact on a national scale. He could though at least just keep helping out in Brooklyn which he has tried to do I know with donating money/meals this year.

The NJ/NY area has so many people who need help, he can just stick to his stomping grounds and try to help people like he often has wanted to do.

I always sensed Kyrie desperately wanted to LEAD something......and that is making him pretty unhappy. He could just do a lot in his own community.
